At that point, anyone who wants their 5 to 11 year old vaccinated will have had the opportunity for 2 months. Zero COVID is never going to happen for an endemic virus. My kids will be maskless at school the first day they can.
Where are you seeing this? Or is this just what you hope? I’d love kids to be able to unmask by Jan., but I’m not holding my breath.
I'm curious why you think Youngkin would do anything else.
Can Youngkin force individual school districts to remove their mask mandates?

They do work and are working. It is not great, but it is safer and it is working. Let's see where we are in the spring after we get some 5-11 and more older kids vaccinated.
And for what it is worth, I voted early for Yougkin. He may allow the mandate to be lifted but local school shoudl be able to, and will in my opinion, keep them for a while.
You fool.
Exactly - OP wants kids to mask for at least 5 more months before even talking about offramps. These people are nuts.
Once kids have had a chance to get vaccinated, they need to come off. And kids are going to school in many parts of Europe without masks but OP says requiring masks here "is safe and it is working." LOL
And more older kids vaccinated?!? Isn't APS at like 95% of kids 12 and over vaccinated?!? WTF.
I was just talking with another teacher in our NoVA district during Trick or Treating tonight and we were both saying we hope masks become optional this spring once ages 5-11 have sufficient chance to be vaccinated. There are schools in many parts of the US that have kids and teachers going to school without masks. It's not just Europe. I'm not saying we should go without masks now, but we have to set a point at which we can. Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax...they are all in the 2.2%-3% positivity range right now and 5-11 year olds aren't even eligible for the vaccine yet. Infection rate is around .89 to .90 in those three districts. Daily new case counts are in the 8-10 range per 100k. If it continues to trend downward and children get vaccinated, I can see our 7 day average case counts dropping to close to where they were this past summer.
I agree. Once the 7 day average stays in the "low" range, we should start to lift the mask mandate in schools.

Will your kids have been vaccinated?
Nope, not until it's fully approved. Even the FDA hearing said there was no solid evidence yet that vaccinating these kids who rarely get sick was going to reduce transmission.
No vaccination mandates for VA either (mandating the COVID vaccine for school is insane, considering how many years all other mandated vaccines were on the market before they were mandated to attend school).

Kids are getting Covid at my kids school because they hung out outside of school unmasked.
So sure let's take off the masks in school too and just let Covid spread!!!
I'm sure it's because they weren't wearing a mask. That's exactly it! lol
Sorry come again? You know better than the contact tracers I guess?
BWHAHAHAH Contract tracers. Cream of the crop " employees"
