I am not as good about voting as I should be for off year elections. For example I missed the gubernatorial election that made Youngkin governor. But happy to say that I am getting ready to go vote this morning for reproductive rights. Straight dem ticket.

Thank you.

I’m not against abortion, but we do have reproductive rights in VA. Abortion up to 16 weeks (when fetus feels pain), and full exceptions for rape, incest, life of mother. I’m not understanding what other rights are needed. Until birth? After birth? Healthy fetus, not healthy?

But it is. Especially as the GOP keeps doubling down on this. Begging Jeff’s pardon on this, but the Baby Boomers are the only large group that votes forced birther (I think the Greatest and Silent Generations are pretty forced birth, but they’re around .2% and 5.49% of the population at this point). This issue and the GOP’s bizarre need to force it on women is a dying gasp of a once critical cohort that appears to be angry that their cultural relevance is significantly reduced. (But what do I know. I’m an ancient Xllenial who noticed all the equally ancient Xllenials in our skinny jeans and side parted hair at conferences last night).

Not so sure about that. My mother and her (remaining) cohort who are well into their 80s are furious about Dobbs. I mean spitting mad. They are voting to protect women’s healthcare rights.
they remember life before the pill and before Roe.

It's the gift that keeps on giving. Republicans are too dumb or stubborn to let it go. They're going to continue wracking up losses because they ceded what used to be their GOTV driver and made it a Democrat GOTV driver. No amount of messaging can fix this for them.

And what’s more, they keep doubling down! Youngkin, Ohio forced birthers, I believe Trump even muttered something too. They think they’ve won.

He'll never take the L. These are super weird people that are obsessed with this. They live in their own bubble.

So despite what you’ve heard over and over, that the Supreme Court left abortion up to the states, the decision actually reads that it should be left to “the people and their representatives.” The people have spoken. Loudly. What happens when their representatives, the ones in an unconstitutionally gerrymandered supermajority, weigh in? Stay tuned.

Is it really Boomers who are pushing abortion bans? I thought it was young, shiny evangelicals pushing abortion bans - which includes Youngkin. My parents were content that abortion was a battle won with RvW. My mother is furious and my father has passed and thankfully cannot see what a disaster his GOP has turned into.

It's really evangelicals that are pushing abortion bans. It always has been. There are others who side with them of course (Catholics, for one) but that's the main group. And that demographic is shrinking because people who identify as religious is a shrinking demographic. The sometime focus on young people that are hugely pro-life is disproportionate - 18-49 year olds overwhelmingly believe abortion should be legal in almost all cases.

Anyone with a daughter is spitting mad about the evil woman-hating GOP in the SCOTUS. How dare they take abortion rights away from all the women of America?
Shame on them, and thank God for the voters who are fighting back, state by state, to restore women's right to care for their bodies themselves without interference from Republicans who really, really hate women.
