Even in that pic, she's dressed like the world's most mediocre midlevel bank manager and the interviewer is in a sari, so a sari wouldn't have been inappropriate.

I'm Indian-American and I am right there with you!! And the crazy thing is that they've been dressing their children in Indian clothes. They are far better dressed than her. She doesn't even need to be in a sari, she could wear something like her daughter is wearing (except obviously a longer top).

I'm of the opinion that Vance would be really pissed if Usha upstaged him because of her clothing like Jackie K. did with Kennedy.

I'd assume that this is to appease or keep the ultra right wing quiet. You can't be anti-DEI and have your wife out frolicking in a sari and celebrating her heritage.
