Logic would suggest that Coates, Floris, McNair, and Oak Hill are shoe-ins to be assigned to Western/Skyview. As between Fox Mill and Crossfield, who knows. Fox Mill is closer, but Meren seems to want to protect South Lakes. Crossfield has the longer commute currently to Oakton, but the RIO folks who want to stay there are more vocal than anyone else potentially redistricted. And then you have the wild card of Reid possibly wanting to leave a lot of open seats at Western/Skyview so students from other areas can take the special "pathways" courses.

Fox Mill and Crossfield are both quite close to Western. However, Fox Mill is also close to South Lakes which is its current school. It is pretty much halfway--close to both.
Crossfield, on the other hand, is quite far from Oakton which is its current school.

Crossfield makes more sense.

Because you want to move to Western. Fox Mill families want to move to Western as well. They want their kids to go to the same school as the kids who they went to MS with. They want the AP programs. They didn’t want to move from Oakton 20 years ago and were ignored then. They have been asking for AP classes, like Robertson has, and have been ignored. As you said, Western is closer for Fox Mill and there are families that are vocally supportive of the move.

The school board will make it’s choice. Fox Mill will end up with kids at Western either by being moved or by pupil placing. There are already a good number of kids who pupil place for AP out of SLHS from Fox Mill, expect that number to go up. Western will be the AP school closest to Fox Mill so guess were they land.

Speaking of Fox Mill, did anyone attend the Meren meeting tonight?

I think your point on leaving capacity within a traditional high school for the special pathways will be an option presented when the new scenarios are rolled out. Especially with the Western High School website saying the last four scenarios were an attempt to explore geographical-based boundaries.

The School board has said they want to eliminate or reduce split feeders. It would make sense to have as many of the Western ES at the same MS, which would help the split feeder situation. Carson is likely to be sending Coates, McNair, and Floris to Western. Either Crossfield or Fox Mill are likely to go to Western. The Oak Hill to Carson conversation is essentially turning Carson into the Western feeder.

The complication is that Carson is in the Oakton pyramid.

A lot of Oak Hill attends Carson through AAP, swapping the kids who are at Carson and not Western with the Oak Hill kids at Franklin makes a certain amount of sense.

They’ve also been talking about overcrowding at Oakton and the long bus rides. My bet is Crossfield goes to western and stays Carson.

They spoke about a lot of similar things during the boundary review regarding other pyramids and almost none of them came to fruition. I agree that Crossfield should go to Western due to proximity and already being at Carson but many ES’ across the county have long bus rides to include Navy and many parts of Waples Mill. As far as the overcrowding, the BRAC entertained moving other neighborhoods into Oakton during the boundary review so that wasn’t much of an issue then.

Well, BRAC also moved more kids into Chantilly.....

Because they know they are moving Oak Hill to Western.

No one can predict what they’ll do. They don’t make principled decisions. They only pontificate and then cave in to the loudest voices.

I will believe it when I see it.

They became completely silent about the long bus ride issue once the crossfield moms started the RIO campaign.

So would Crossfield/carson/western.

Yes it would and it is a possibility. No one is saying it isn't. But Crossfield/Carson/Oakton is not.

Crossfield/Carson/Western or
Crossfield/Franklin/Oakton

The RIO families and Crossfield/Carson/Oakton which is not doable.

i mean its the status quo so clearly it is doable

will the school board want to continue it? Who knows.

To us, 4 years' high school is more important than 2 years' middle school. We will choose Oakton over Carson if we have to make a decision between these two.

Oak Hill base Middle School is Franklin. Is Oak Hill/ Franklin/Western possible?
