I enjoyed the show as a perfectly ridiculous and fluffy, predictable romance. I liked that they had diverse casting, but agree the way they explained it was clunky and unnecessary. It was great to have on while I did the laundry, cleaned up, paid bills, ran on the treadmill etc. I didn't really need to follow that closely to get the plot and enjoy it in the background. I probably wouldn't rewatch it, but I would tune in for season 2.

I don't see what's so great about any of it, sadly. I wanted to love the show and the sex scenes but they fall flat for me.

The lead actress looks like a teen or child, which makes it tough to watch the sex scenes.

When I tune that part out, I still couldn't get into it. I do think its interesting that the sex is not just male-focused. She's shown being really into it (even though she pretty much just lies back, until the scene where she doesn't and it's close to a consent problem).

Basically they just show her with fake expressions of ecstasy on her face while he makes little effort.

Just wasn't hot sex, IMO.

They were terrible. Almost no foreplay at all, it lasts like two seconds, and they all start to look and feel the same.

This made me laugh. Maybe actual porn is something you both are looking for.

right at the beginning - up against a tree. Can't watch with teenage kids. It's a banal show, anyhow. If you want to see Castle Howard ( the one used in the Bridgerton show), used correctly, see the Granada production of Brideshead Revisited from 1982. Exquisitely and tastefully done. Great actors, music and follows Waugh's book. This new stuff isn't worth watching.

+100
This show was a Harlequin Romance with a slightly interesting story. Nothing more.

I just keep thinking back to the necklace the prince gave Daphne and how she left it outside!! Kept waiting for her to go back for it - and she never even returned it to the prince! I know, trivial and unimportant but it bugged me.

Yes!!! Same!!

Especially since Daphne's culpability was dealt with less in the show than in the book. That said, I loved this series so much. I loved Simon-Daphne's love story, especially these scenes:

- The touching yourself talk
- Simon's love speech appeal to the Queen
- The burn for you dialogue, especially Simon's morning, evening, night part
- Daphne's love speech in the rain.

Gawd yes. These all gave me so much life. And resulted in some fun sexy times with DH. I need more of this kind of content!

The romp on the lawn by the lake was something. Do you think all the servants were watching from the mansion?

Kept thinking this was just like Grey’s season one. With Meredith and McDreamy and all the entanglements and tension and side stories.

I could see this show coming from a mile away. I knew Penelope was the writer from the beginning because of the way she humoring Eloise about it. Also knew they Duke would marry Daphne and have lots and lots of kids. Still enjoyable although honestly the Duke is toxic.

This is the part that got me. If they decided to make Queen Charlotte black, then they’re going with that theory, that she had some African heritage. They also made her husband, King George, go mad - which is also historically accurate. I couldn’t reconcile some parts of this show being fairly accurate with most of the show being completely fabricated fluff. I mean, it was fun to watch, but I would have preferred some consistency. Either be historically accurate throughout, or be completely fictionalized and fantastical.

Also, the sex was WAY too much. I know many of you enjoyed it, but the amount and explicitness was a major turn off for me.

How do you watch shows like The Tudors or The Spanish Princess? All the things you object to there as well.

Where did I say I watch either of those shows? I don’t. Weird that you would assume I do.

Why is the sex too much? I mean I think most newlyweds have that much. I mean Anthony was only having sex like once a day still. It's realistic and hot.

Ok. If you think the sex was realistic, I really don’t know what to tell you.

As a newlywed you weren’t having lots and lots of sex?!? That’s a rough honeymoon period.

Oh, I was. Just not on a cold marble staircase. YMMV.

As a newlywed, we had sex everywhere. I won’t knock a marble staircase until I try it.
