Doing this, what? Check what she is being charged with. mail fraud, conspiracy to commit fraud, money laundering. Really? Money laundering?

I suppose they could say that they hired this college consultant not knowing that he was a scam artist. They took his advice and a USC staff member made it seem like this was a legitimate back door into the university that only certain select people are allowed to take.

The fact that Olivia Jade wound up sailing around on a university official's yacht also indicates that the red carpet had been rolled out for them.

I'm still in disbelief that a successful, self made designer like Mossimo and a well known actress like Loughlin felt compelled to go this route. It just seems so breathtakingly stupid. Is their defense going to be that they really are that dumb?

My dd just went through college admissions. The athletic recruiting process is different, and there is no way that those young women didn't know. So if they were 18, they are on the hook - and should be.

I seriously doubt the kids were that heavily involved. Parents made all the arrangements and payments. Kids were probably told what to do by the adults. I don't think its fair to put it on them as they would not have done it on their own.

They could not have paid the money on their own; that's true. But they could have refused the fake test, refused the fake photo, refused to sign the false application, applied on their own to a college they could have gotten in to without cheating. The thing about the law though, is that when you participate in a crime scheme, you are the hood for all crimes committed in furtherance of the scheme whether you knew about it, anticipated it, or approved of it or no. The financial crime should not be pinned on the kids, except as co-conspirators. If you are a conspirator, you go down for every crime in the conspiracy unless you cut a deal.

Their parents were terrible influences but these girls played a role in all of this and should be held accountable for what they actually did.
