What's hurting Spirit's reputation is Spirit. If it did a better job, there wouldn't be angry parents. but since they are an NWSL DA academy team, they can do whatever they want and US Soccer will never take away their DA status.
Spirit VA that is. Spirit MD may be different. In fact, it is different in that it has no EDP and smaller rosters. If they play up girls, those girls are on the roster and part of the team, not benching a team member. So that's already different.
Hahaha! The facts don't support your story. Interest is increasing in VA Spirit, they have a good reputation. What happened to their being no interest in the club? Now it's they can't fit everyone on the field. Sorry but the USSDA is doing fine and Spirit is growing and getting better.
Correction: interest WAS increasing. Let's see how next year turns out after all this madness. Again, nice try. Even me, I thought Spirit was on the up and up too. I was just as fooled as anyone else.
Which is exactly why I'm warning people. DA is great. Just don't do it with Spirit VA unless you literally have no other option. And I mean NO other option. I wish I had taken the other offer we received. Now we are stuck for the year.

So yes, I will warn and continue to warn. What a horrific mistake I must now suffer with until I can get my DD off this team.
And since you must be the benefiting 04 parents, congratulations for a hand well played. Getting a whole club to cater to...nothing special. Good job.
I'm genuinely sorry your DD wasn't able to make the DA team and would have to play EDP and just train with the DA team. I know that must hurt. If I were you and were that upset over the decision, I'd tryout elsewhere, speak with Tom about potentially leaving/reimbursement, and see what the other options are.
Personally, I'd be OK with the EDP path, because I'd realize that is also a great decision for my daughter's development, while realizing she had work to do if she wanted to make the DA team next season (or be called up for some reason). I'd review her progress over the year and if it looked like she just couldn't cut it with the DA team, I'd look for an alternative for the following year. I wouldn't work myself into a frenzy over it this year, because that would probably affect her psyche and performance.
That is very sweet of you. If my DD were indeed EDP, I would do just that and I advise any EDP parent to follow that advise. Withdraw your child and go anywhere else.
Since my DD is DA, I will let this play out for this year and look attentively for other options. But still warn everyone so they don't get tricked. This sort of dishonesty and underhandedness strikes at the core of Spirit's integrity.
But again, thank you. That was very thoughtful of you.
Ok - I am calling BS on you. You are not a Spirit parent. You are on here to just smear the club.
Your story is that your daughter is on DA and you are mad because she is going to lose playing minutes to play ups. But in the next breathe you say if she was EDP you would be okay? BS. The simple solution for you is to ask Tom to move your DD to EDP.
The language you use to keep attacking Spirit's integrity and going on and on about this makes you look like a troll. So my guess is that you are one. Nice try though.
I'm the one who posted the apology note that she responded to. I think she was agreeing with the first part of my note, where i said she should speak with Tom and leave if she were that upset. I said that I'd prefer the EDP path because they do a really great job in training with my daughter and i wouldn't want to give that up.
That said, with her previous comments, i really expected her to be the parent of an EDP player. I'm at a loss to understand why someone would want to trash their own club over the competitive arrangement that was presented to the players in that group.
Because treating the EDP group like this and playing up 04 DA players over top of 03 EDP players insults the integrity of the EDP process and sends a clear message of what it means to be EDP: you are out. You are done. Spirit will never pick you back up. Then cut those poor girls, and to be honest, they should have really done that in the spring when they could have gone somewhere else. Yes, it would have hurt in the beginning, but that would be better than this slow bleed of a 1000 knives for them.
And there is a solid EDP option out there that does it better than this: it's called the ECNL. When EDP first came out, I thought it would be run with some integrity. When the teams were announced this year, I thought it would be an upgrade from last year's experience. Instead, it's the same madness. There is no upgrade, no improvement. Just the same exact problems - even when there is no longer a need. The 04 group is still way too large, the older teams will still be expected to balance their playing time by taking on extras they don't need and will just drag them down, so this must not be a year 1 player pool problem. This is how Spirit does business. The other teams haven't been infected because the youngers didn't cull the numbers for it and the U19s lost several players to FCV and BRYC (I guess their parents were smart enough to see it was time to get out).
Yes, I will make sure people know, because I wish someone had warned me.
Ah - ECNL Dad! Welcome back!

What else you got?
The Spirit parents who aren't part of the apologist group know everything I say rings true. And the apologists can't dare admit it, but they know I'm a Spirit parent. this is just a deflection as they try to salvage the reputation of this second rate club.

FCV parents said numerous times FCV never sits an age appropriate player to play up another. It's been said on thos forum time and again. I also know personally people at the club and they also say it is never done. In fact, I can't find another club who does, not even Spirit MD.
Just us.

Of course you have to call BS. Because to admit a Spirit parent feels this way would show that there is a problem. And as I said, if my DD was an EDP player, seeing how Spirit is managing it, I'd leave right now.
And again, EDP parents, you heard it confirmed here. These people don't even deny it. If your kid is EDP, they are never going back on the DA team - 04 or 03 doesn't matter.
Nice try. Tell Gus you did the best that you could...

They are rostered with their age group but truly part of the 04 roster. So the final roster is technically 24.
You are half right: there are 2 underage players not listed but are on the 04 team. They are not listed on their age group either. They are missing. But they are on the 04 team and that is where they will play. They are starters.
By the way, this to me is different than playing some U15s up randomly because these 2 players have been part of that team all along. They are where they belong and they are part of that team. They are also very talented.
There players missing from every single Spirit VA team all the way up to the U19s - players I know are VA DA and have been at practice and at the scrimmages. Not sure what's going on with that.
Maybe the DPs are missing
