Poor Mary.
I do feel sorry for her. Being kicked out of a house she's lived in for just about all her life because her mother was a bitch. I don't care how it's spun, if Thelma never made it upfront and clear to her daughter over the past five years that she wasn't inheriting the house, she was a grade A bitch. Responsible, sensible adults don't do something like that unless they're being deliberately cruel. As it is, it's a cruel world, and what can one do?
Enjoy the house once you get it clear and free.

I hope you decide to live there during this time frame to ensure that she doesn't trash the joint.
I would be ready on on march 15 with a lock smith on site to change all the locks.
Even if you get her out of the house. nothing to say that she won't swing by from time to time just to vandalize, be a pita, ect.

Op here, mary has been given a date of March 15th to vacate the home and take all of her belongings or Thelma's things that she wants. I told her that I will likely be having an estate sale/yard sale/donating most of the stuff in the house.

Thelma was a really rotten mother to do this to her daughter. And to dump the problem on others after she died so she wouldn't have to deal with it. She didn't have the courtesy to make clear to Mary that she wasn't inheriting the home she'd lived in for so many decades. Definitely winning the mother of year award.
Glad I don't have to deal with a dysfunctional family.

Her mother drew up the will FIVE years ago & that's plenty... PLENTY of time to consider, ponder, FEEL GUILTY about what she was doing... clearly, she did NOT.
Also, there's an executor listed on every will, so somebody else knew that Larla was getting this for the past 5 years, as well.
She was of SOUND mind when she drew up the will & of SOUND mind when she died, Thelma made the decision to do what she wanted with THELMA'S house.
The fact that you keep repeating yourself that somehow Mary should be the beneficiary is laughable & sounds like you're projecting some of your own feelings or family issues onto Larla.

This is true if Larla's name is on the deed. If the house has not yet been transferred to Larla's name, she can't get Mary out of the house and really can't do anything regarding the house until she legally owns it.
OP, have all the legal processes relating to the will been carried out and completed?
