This just breaks my heart. OP, I am so sorry for your loss. Words can't express my sorrow for you. May peace be with you and that you find some comfort in knowing that your daughter is pain free, in a beautiful place and with you always, in your heart and in your mind.

What scare me most about this post is the realization that tragedy, illness, etc can happen at any time, you never know. They are OK today but you do not know what tomorrow, next year, 10 years from now brings. Live for today.

Yes, please hug your child today.

OP, I'm the PP who bumped this up on 12/5/13, and I'm so glad you're here. Not to sound stalker-ish, but I think about you and your daughter all the time. My kids are 4 and 2 so you can imagine it's a little crazy in our house sometimes, but remembering how you talked about your daughter reminds me to take a step back and make sure I count my many blessings every day, and I do. It also reminds me to sit still and just enjoy my time with my kids, especially when they want me to draw a picture of a dog for the 45th time in the last 10 minutes and I REALLY REALLY REALLY need to get dinner started. Dinner can wait.

Holding you and your family in my heart this Christmas and always.

I will light candles this Christmas in honor of your daughter, OP. I am very sorry for your loss. May peace be upon you and your family. You are a beautiful mother, as it comes through your writing. You will always be a mother. Always. You are not alone, and please surround yourself with those who love you, as well as those who loved DS the most. Seek therapy, and/or spiritual guidance. When my father died of cancer, I was told the grieving process would take time. It did, and everyone grieves differently. I cannot even begin to comprehend the loss of a child (and I wouldn't dare even try to compare) but what I can say is I knew I was starting to come to peace with the massive loss when I started to have vivid dreams of the *good* years, instead of the time spent in the hospital. Celebrate the good times, the laughter, and joyful memories.

This thread helped me get that the struggle to be a good parent boils down to one thing: be sure they know they are loved.
