Has MCPS put out the bus stop list for Crown already? The Villages is over 2 miles to Crown (google maps puts it at 3.4 walking) - high school students more than 2 miles to a high school get bus transportation. There will be MCPS bus transportation from that area. You are fear mongering for no reason.

Montoya is a racist. She was trying to say that Asian and White students are taking magnet spots away from Black and Brown children. The spots are merit base and you have to apply. You don’t apply, you don’t get a spot. You don’t have the scores, you don’t get the spot. How is she magically going to raise the scores and make parents apply?

What do you think the walk zone is around Wootton? And you can transfer if you don't walk to walk a short distance.
Maybe walking 2 miles is a short distance for you because you are an enthusiast of Scandinavian speed walking, but for most normal people walking 2 miles takes 40 minutes. The shortest public transportation option from the Villages to Crown is 56 minutes. These are kids in the current walk zone to Wootton. The current walk zone includes 541 student, who will now be walking 2 miles before hopping on a bus. I am sure you are loving it, given that you walk miles and miles every day, but for most normal people it’s not doable because they have things to do.

At least at the elementary level. If you don't have the scores and later grades, don't apply, you won't get selected. So this forced magnet diversification is not organic and it won't work.

It’s not worth fighting this. Take care of your own family first. Families who can afford to go private will do so, while those who can’t will either accept things or move. This is how it’s always been and it will always be.
Those in favor of this decision will say good riddance and call you names. But they don’t realize they’re the ones who will ultimately pay the price. MCPS is never accountable and the developers will already have their money.
