"Today’s delay also meant that we canceled morning childcare for some families, where before school care is provided at some of our schools by community partners. This announcement was made in error and should have been a delay. Again, I deeply apologize for the added stress that this caused to an already chaotic morning. We are truly sorry for the confusion."
Noting that our provider announced they would open at 9am and were then told they could not open. So it wasn't just a typo. They made a choice, dug in and are now facing blowback for making the psychotic decision to open high schools before letting child care providers open.
Is this real?

It's not just an inconvenience for families of elementary school kids, but a significant financial burden as well (for example, I am paid hourly and am losing 3 hours of work unnecessarily this morning, and I imagine some parents might have to call off a whole full-day shift of work if they have to watch their kids until 11am.). It's really hostile and punitive for working families.
Combined with the similar forced closures at the tail end of snow cleanup last winter, this seems like a new policy direction under the new MCPS administration and I hate it. I get that when there is bad weather anywhere in the county that all schools need to be delayed or closed accordingly, but there is no reason why before/aftercare providers shouldn't be able to make their own decisions about opening based on local conditions, like they used to do prior to last year. But MCPS has been prohibiting them from opening even when it is perfectly safe locally and they want to be open serving families.
How do we fight this and go back to the old policies of letting the providers make decisions about opening based on local conditions? Who do we contact?
The county is too big. You voted for socialism so you have socialism. If one person might have snow then we all stay home.

Yeah what WAS that email?

I mean, no school cares about working parents. And covid should have shown us all that. Best thing is to lower your expectation that the school is your friend. It isn't. It is there to provide education, and they have 1,000 other competing interests that they have to listen to and satisfy. Prepare for the fact that the school isn't going to satisfy every need you have and learn to fill in the gaps.
MCPS doesn't operate before or after care
also accurate, but obviously they can influence whether the before/after care in their buildings open or close.
Find another child care that is not inside a MCPS facility. Like now. Do not need parents (if you are one) such as this one in any of child care places that are in a MCPS facility
You are psychotic
