Was part of the team that got in trouble for weight loss pills back then on Coach Glisky and Millers teams. Did the program in.

I am amazed at the number of current Whitman parents who went there themselves.

Live in NOVA now. Born and raised in B-town across the street from the home of the Vikings. (actually born in DC since Suburban was not yet built) Mother still lived in same house until a few years back when the childhood home was raized and McMansioned.

I grew up in Bethesda, lived in both DC and VA for a few years, and now am back in Bethesda. It feels like home, even if the Farrells and Hot Shoppes and other landmarks are gone.

........being a safety patrol from Whittier Woods elementary. Remember the orange belts you would wear? Do they still have safety patrols?

Biggest day on the job........diligently fighting crime and upholding justice on the corner of Maiden Lane and Holiday Terrace. Two guys had a car accident elsewhere. They got in an argument and one fled the scene. The other jumped on the hood. They came down Maiden lane at 70 mph with the car swirving to knock the guy off the hood. It worked. Yuck. I would have been able to prevent the whole thing if I had watched more Gomer Pyle....."Citizen's Arrest!! Citizen's Arrest!!"

I mentioned that early on in this thread and people didn't believe it.

Also remember when the Iran hostage crisis ended and Bruce Laingen stopped by Pyle and Whitman and everyone chased his car form Pyle to Whitman

Was away at Penn State when they were released, but Laingen's son was a classmate of mine beginning in 7th grade at Pyle. Based upon is daily tales of life as a dept state brat in Afghanistan in "history" class, he was awarded the moniker, "Afghanistan Bill."

The Whitman "hill" where students who normally were well-kept began spending less and less time combing hair and putting on clean clothes in the morning after they gained a fondness for the "hill." I was never sure if it was a uniform that was adopted for acceptance or a side effect of the weed. Regardless, it is an observation that I have shared with my four children as they entered teen-hood. Not that I did not enjoy such recreation myself, I simply did not make it part of my daily scholastic preparation for class.

The other 5th grade teacher, Miss Gibson (Abramo), and her wonderful ukelele version of "Pearly Shells." We had classes of 5th graders - each with over 30 students. Talk about baby boom!!

A popular style of jacket called a "Peter's" jacket. I had a knock off from E.J. Korvette's on Rockville Pike. (which was rumored to stand for Eight Jewish Korean Veterans)
