The rosters just aren't that deep. Even at the three schools that somebody identified earlier as the standard bearers, a stud freshman would be playing varsity.

I have a feeling these kids are most likely "above average" and they/parents are on here hyping them up. Taking a look at the VLC W/L record for the fall both the 2029 teams are average at best with losing records.

100%... Majority of these parents nowadays are delusional and expect their kids to all go D1. Especially the parents of VLC/Madlax kids. I can almost certainly promise you the parents of these 5 Oakton kids feel that same way. They will absolutely NOT be happy with them playing JV at a public school. Gonna back fire on Oakton's Staff.

SO your saying they will suck in 2026?

They may suck this year but once the fab five making the starting roster the sky's the limit for Oakton Varsity. It'll be evident to those that pay attention to their JV Team in the spring; I don't think they'll lose a single game.

I don’t dynasty is too strong a word for what Oakton has brewing.

This also includes off-season practices, and 2 off-season events (re: Fall Brawl). No one coaches public HS Lacrosse for the money. Many coaches end up spending that money on something involving the the program anyway.

If you ask some of the current HS coaches that have been at it for awhile in this area they will all tell you the pay is not part of equation as to why they come back year after year to coach.

What coaches in this area have been at it the longest, as an Assistant or Head Coach? The two that I can come up with is Bill Maglisceau (Annandale) who has been there since around the early 1990's and Head Coach since 1999, and then Dave Smith at Dominion who has been there as an Asst, and now Head Coach since the mid-1990's.

Which coaches played in this area as a player also?

Pre-COVID when I was going to be an assistant lacrosse coach the rather overt comment was my stipend was expected to be donated back to the program. This is FCPS so no one is confused. Which is fine, I would have done that anyways, but the "you basically have to do this" nature of the comment was a bit surprising.

I'd love to be an assistant, my job and life doesn't afford me 2-3 hours a day, 5 days a week. My understanding is you can't simply volunteer 1-2 afternoons a week to help out. Which makes it almost impossible for people with non -school jobs.

Just for minor clarification, I didn't think HS coaches could officially be involved with Fall Brawl.

This is why so many schools need coaches. Look at the requirements and let me know what rational person is going to go through this for a pennies on the hour position.

Most of those requirements are very easy, online, and no cost.

The greater limiting factor is the time commitment. If you're willing to spend 1.5-3 hours a day, 5-6 days a week, being a coach then those requirements are simple.
