In terms of academics, Woodson is 2nd by a decent margin.

Langley, McLean and Oakton mostly just benefit from having affluent families. Which is legit, but their success has nothing to do with the school.

Chantilly is probably 3rd for me.

Edison is very close 4th.

The rest of the school's just reflect the socioeconomic of their catchment are

DP. Amen to that. In addition, I'm pretty sick of only the STEM kids being considered "smart". Plenty of humanities-focused kids are off-the-charts bright - but of course, TJ is a STEM school so we never hear about the humanities geniuses.

Longfellow is the distilled essence of entire NOVA population tiger parents (no, sabretooth parents).

In every single activity the level of parental involvement is insane. In one Science Olympiad event a parent probably spent a couple of thousand dollars to develop a binder packed with information that the students can take inside for the test. It was so professionally done and the information is so well organized and intuitive to find. No other school is going to come close to matching that level of parental influence and getting 1st in the state level competition is nearly a given.

Because it is directly related to the strength of peers, which is the metric parents use to assess schools. It also points out that some school are punching below or over their weight. Notably Irving MS historically sends less than 10 every year yet tends to be trumpeted quite often as a better option than Lake Braddock.
