She was such a darling back then. I thought she looked great—loved the dress on her.
When the negative publicity about the work you have or have not had done on your face becomes so intense, and it over rides your acting work, actresses make corrections. Because it is too mortifying and bad for your brand.. Thinking of Meg Ryan but also Nicole Kidman, Courney Cox, Sarah Jessica Parker, Goldie Hawn ( who both recently increased procedures). I've almost never seen an actress not eventually do a course correct of some sort when their face becomes the focus, in any way. It might take awhile but they do it.

Who is the former heroin addict?
The director, Sean Baker. He recovered from his heroin addiction and then proceeded to make film after film about sex workers. In Anora, he cast Mikey Madison, then in her early 20s, to strip and perform graphic sex scenes and gyrations nude without an intimacy coordinator. For this they are both rewarded by the entertainment industry.
Maybe it's his redemption but what a message that sends to young actresses. Meanwhile better performances were overlooked.

That's really interesting. I'm sure it's in part due to misogyny and that sex is titillating. But it's also because it sort of goes to the core of the female struggle over thousands of years and so it provides a lot of meat for female actresses dealing with the female condition. At some level, we're all dealing with the comidification of our bodies and trying to find a way to assert ownership of our sexuality and selves.
NP and I think you are giving the academy more credit than they deserve. They love to glamorize sex work and do “research” and thank the sex worker community. They don’t give two sh**s. Sex and nudity sells and they exploit women in movies all the time.
+ 1 billion!!!
And the cycle just repeats as movie houses back movies they know “will sell” sex/nudity. I disagree that stories about sex workers are about THE human condition or even the female condition. They are stories about a subset of people. If they are the only stories honored, is overall disservice to women and reinforces to be in entertainment as a female, greatest odds your roles will be a stripper, sex worker, rape victim or cadaver who was a stripper, sex worker or rape victim.
Hard agree. You’ve nailed i.
I was horrified by the sex worker community thank yous as though any of them will ever talk to a sex worker again.
I met someone who was turned into a sex worker against her will, and it's just not a situation to glorify.
Sean Baker's movies are all about sex workers. He will certainly be talking to them again. Did you see The Florida Project? Or any of his other films?
Yes, I saw the Florida Project. Yes, I know his movies are about sex workers. Obviously, this choice works for him and the awards people appear to love actresses playing prostitutes.
Here's eleven women who won awards for playing prostitutes. If you are a woman and want to win, play a sex worker to increase your chances.

I said the same about Renee Zellweger in another thread. I don't know how they reverse the procedures that made them look different, but I like to see them look like themselves but older, as it should be.
+1 Same with Darryl Hannah. Her face looked great and like she had gotten rid of all her bad plastic surgery or fillers or something. She looked different and so much better! I do think there is some kind of reversal procedure because I think I saw that Lindsay Lohan had had that done and she looked much better.

She looks SO different than she once did.
I thought she was very beautiful about eight yrs ago when she had the long ponytail, was full-on tanned and wore those thigh high boots which became her signature style.
She is still pretty - just not as she used to be.
She looks pale + is much too thin now.
Plus her hair appears very thin now.
Yeah, but the tan was fake, she used to portray herself as Latina, but she’s not she’s Italian.

I think she got filler in her cheeks at some point during award season. They are much fuller and almost makes it look like she got a new set of upper teeth as well, but I don't think she did.
