So GA and MLS already had a partnership this whole time?

Well, it seems like ECNL requires it on the boys AND girls side so there certainly isn't any partnership with ECNL girls and MLS Next boys.

That was a PR move to help the GA brand. They have had 4 years to collaborate and scheme how they will recreate a better version of DA.

The first step is allowing girls to GA Cup. The biggest tournament in the states.

So after four years of "collaborating", the brilliant combined minds come with up allowing girls in the GA Cup? Just imagine what they will do in the next 10 years!

Don't worry what GA is doing. You're not invited so it doesn't matter.

Stick with ECNL + the SY rec leagues and talk about RAE all day. I'm sure it's the right way to attract top talent.

So this collaboration on coaching initiatives PR move is vastly different then the original coaching collaboration initiatives PR move? I think they cut and pasted from the old one.

the last one was skipped over by many.
I think the first go around was a warning to clubs with ECNL/GA & MLSN/Ecnl.

Tough decisions coming soon…

So what is going to happen is Washington Spirit will start an academy. That academy will play in the GA?

They will either create one or take an existing club (probably an old DA one) and they will play in the GA.

I do agree though that this was a Hail Mary to keep the last of their top clubs. I do think the clubs that have GA/ECNL may get plucked

Ok so assume your first part - the Spirit creates an academy. What is the advantage to playing in GA vs ECNL? Why do you assume the default is they would go to GA?
There are two NWSL teams with academies (not fully funded) today - NC Courage and Portland Thorns - and they both play in ECNL.

This is only the beginning of what may come. First things first, you have to take care of the clubs with mixed leagues.

Long winded post coming...

I've said it in an earlier post, the soccer landscape in the US is so fractured with all the competing interests and little power, direction from the top levels - and who really is that? The US Soccer Federation?

Girls thoughts - college v. pro. In the past, the way to the national team and frankly US dominance was fully through US colleges. They were the develop ground for high level players post high school - really wasn't another option right?

But, now you see outside the US, other countries developing their academies on the women's side similar to the men's side with good results - in particular Spain. While here, we have not and are still stuck in the college model which is even murkier with transfer, NIL, etc.

But really, even in the last few years, there are more options very high level players to forgo college and go straight to a pro career.

While only NWSL has been mentioned, USL is trying to make a go of a top league with their USL Super League for women to give more options for pro womens soccer. You see the multiple summer leagues around between USL-W, NPWSL now gaining some traction and expansion.

Ok, much of what I typed really only applies to a very small percentage of girls out there. But, you have those pro level girls, girls who are thinking about college soccer first, education second and others that are education first and college soccer second and those that don't play beyond their HS club years. Where do they all fit? That's the question.
