+1. This time of year, new talent already has jobs lined up. Teachers pay attention to vacancy rates when they’re looking to move schools. New principal or not, close to half the staff leaving is a major red flag.

So sick of hearing this. There are a multitude of reasons teachers leave a school. Navy got a new principal this year and the ones who loved the old principal are leaving. That is standard. Personally, I was very happy with the new principal and everyone I spoke to (parents) were as well. The kids love him. The John supporters weren’t happy and we all know why. Move on. Can’t wait to see the new talent - out with the old and in with the new.

The applicant pool will be completely dried up by July. The teachers at my school that are leaving but staying in teaching already have new jobs. Teacher hiring starts in March with the peak being May/ June, by July most experienced teachers are snatched up, by August it’s the stragglers like people with poor references or non renewed from their last school. If you’re lucky you will get someone who had to move last minute.

I up and quit in October (although a non teaching FCPS position) without notice and haven’t looked back. Reasons I quit include concerns for my personal safety, due to student violence, drug use and general disrespect and disruptive behavior. I didn’t get paid enough to be an ersatz SRO.

We had 11 staff members leave (6 teachers, 3 IA, counselor & psychologist.) Of those leaving, 7 were sped!

This was the last confirmed number I heard as well. I also heard that all but one of the positions had been filled, and that, so far, only one of the new hires was a first-year teacher.

Not all of these are classroom teachers. And some are legitimately moving to a different part of the state.
