I also found their line deliveries really unconvincing, I think because these were basically monologues and were a bit too literary to feel authentic (not sure if they were lifted from the book or what). It just felt like dumb device.

Are we supposed to believe she’s the ultimate victim? Victim of an overbearing Tiger Mom, Victim of being Korean American in HK, Victim of her Losing someone’s child cross to bear, Victim of attention from cheating married man?
Does she and her financials make more sense in the book?
None of her decisions were good. Her attitude is terrible and grossly immature for a 25 yo. She gets bailed out by her mom at the end. Was this all to stick it to her Mom?
Everybody was really sticking it to their Mom by the end of the movie. Everyone.
No surprise her new friend ditched her. She is so clueless.
And what was her plan with this baby? Now she’s moving back to the US with a mom she dislikes who will help her raise this baby? She has no plan so one was made for her. Sad.
She’s the epitome of passiveness and aimlessness. So having a welfare baby fits right in.
I really thought Mercy set up those final lunch tea mtgs with Margaret and then Hillary in order to try to be a surrogate and have one of them adopt the baby.
But then Margaret went and said OMG, you don’t want to be a mother or OMg you’d give up your baby?

She’d eventually accept the money from David…
