But what have Democrats done?
There are tons of very well educated and successful black professionals. But this unchecked illegal migration over the southern border - millions and millions over the past three years - is absolutely destroying the work possibilities for both black and white folks without a college degree.
I get George Floyd. But Derek Chauvin, the cop responsible for that, was sentenced and has been stabbed numerous times in prison.
In the meantime, cops don't do anything anymore. Nor do prosecutors. Nor do judges. And the victims of violent crime are overwhelmingly black.
How is that a win?
Most cities in America are run by black politicians. It's an old-timey patronage system. And consequently, it's incompetence everywhere.
I don't give a damn what some white progressive has to say.
But I am very interested to hear what black folks have to say. From my outside perspective - foreigner, suburban, higher degrees - don't get the black loyalty to Democrats.
They've done a better job at not spewing total BS. Patronage system. Loyalty. SMH.

There was NOTHING to enjoy about an article discussing how black male VOTERS feel disenfranchised from the Democratic Party. It paints a bleak future for black men and to a certain extent, working class men (including white men). If the DNC doesn't think it needs to appeal to these men (of any color), the party is doomed to losing actual voters to either apathy or the GOP. A lot of them think they have no skin in the game so there's no reason to vote. Lots of working class people are not engaged in big world ideas like climate change, student loans and infrastructure bills - they don't have time for that crap when they are struggling to make ends meet and dodging bullets in their homes.
I know Biden can't fix everything but he's the visible head of the party and is rightfully blamed when the Democratic Party is failing at the local and state level. The smug liberal elites who call these people lazy and stupid for not voting for Biden are totally detached from reality. And no, Kamala isn't black or appeals to blacks and especially not to working class black Americans. Trotting her out like a show pony is ineffective in reaching black men who are planning to cross the party line or sit this one out. The DNC needs to do better from the bottom up.

Trump is an urban elite and went to Wharton, considered an elite business school. He also famously stiffed small business owners who worked for him and has a history of hiring undocumented workers. What part of his identity, life, or work history resonates with US workers?
He’s getting shafted by the legal system.

Democrats have done a good job of convincing black voters that Republicans are the Boogeyman. They vote for the party candidates regardless of the competence and qualification of the candidates (see Obama). From Chicago, to Atlanta, to Baltimore, you can see what Democrats have done for black communities - not a damn thing.

WTF are you talking about? 81 million people voted for Biden. Polls a year out only register that a lot of people like to complain about things and imagine that some ideal candidate might appear out of thin air. Those who want someone other than Biden are all over the political spectrum. No potential candidate would poll a majority at this point.
This is not about a fantasy candidate - it more like voter apathy. All I hear as a black voter is something to the effect that Trump will have us back on a plantation within 90 days of his inauguration. Portraying Trump as the Boogeyman is really not an effective strategy to retain or attract voters.
Exactly. It is always, look the other way at our bad policies, because theirs is worse. Most people would probably like to see changes to allow at least some standard allowance for abortions and caps to control the border situation. Instead all we have is all or other options according to the loudmouths.

Holding up Gay as a victim is ironic. She was a mediocre academic with non-existent and non-substantive publication or research history. She had a controversial run as administrator against key black faculty members who didn't toe the line. And she plagiarized, which is essentially rule #1 of what not to do if you work in academia.
There are much more accomplished college leaders who also happen to be black, such as the incoming new president of Boston University, or Brown's Ruth Gee (now retired). Why Harvard doubled down on Gay of all people is a bit bizarre. But rushing to defend her exposes the reality of the situation - she was a major beneficiary of third rate affirmative action failing upwards. She was only president of Harvard because she was black, not because of anything she accomplished in her academic or even administrative life. And, ironically, she was from a family with origins in wealthy upper class Haiti and went to elite boarding schools, so she didn't work her way to the top. I would not hold her up as a paragon to admire or respect.

Most youths never finish college or go to college. The college debt forgiveness doesn't benefit them, if anything, it's a smack in their faces.
The pattern has been clear for the last 20 years and accelerating. It's that the working classes are moving steadily to the Republicans. First the white, then large numbers of the Hispanic, and now some black men. The Republicans are becoming the party of working to lower middle Americans. Which is ironic given the Democrats are supposed to be the party of the working classes but have evolved into the party of the wealthy and special interest groups.

They would be but I don’t think Black people are, broadly speaking, gullible enough to vote for Republicans. It’s not that the Democrats are perfect, but two big things that I think of are how the GOP has an obsession with punishing Black people (George Floyd and the GOP love of police violence against Black people and that unfortunate Black woman in Ohio being prosecuted for having a miscarriage) and how they have an obsession with stopping Black people from voting.
The joke's on you. Black people are quite familiar with disappointments from liberals and conservatives (if you lived in an urban, urban environment you'd know this - and no, Bethesda does not count). We have little expectation that either party will do anything but pander during the campaign cycle and then leave us high and dry after they've been sworn in.
