If he is withholding the kids passports, thus forcing Sophie to come to him if she wants to be with her kids, it's cruel. The legalities of a divorce between two people with different nationalities is not my concern -- they should both have thought of that before getting married and having kids. But I just think it's cruel to attempt to separate very young children from their mother. Even if he has a legal justification for it, it's immoral. Their youngest daughter is only like 14 months old. These are babies.

It makes me feel physically unwell to think of a mother of children that age being separated from her children, for any reason other than the idea that she is an unfit mother. It's the only reason. Very young children should be with their mother if at all possible.

Is it better to separate young kids from their father? Their reality is that they are from different countries. And if they’re divorced, they could be parenting on different continents. One of them is going to have more access than the other unless they agree to live in one spot.

It’s not crazy to me that if they’d lived on one location since the kids were born and suddenly moved to England as things were going south, that the US born spouse would want to move back where they and their kids had been living. She could just as easily have pressured Joe to move to the UK months ago knowing that they were headed for a divorce and wanting to establish their residence there.

That doesn't mean that he can just go ahead and do it without notifying the other parent. He is a shady, conniving, controlling SOB and there is more about him that's going to come out.

Btw, Joe and Sophie were spotted together in NYC last weekend. Likely trying to iron out details on how to move forward. Meaning things aren’t as acrimonious as is being made out here.

This is important because it means when Sophie was at his concert on September 3rd and he was wearing his wedding ring, he had ALREADY filed and she DIDN'T KNOW. WTAF. Suggests she had pre-arranged visitation with the kids and he didn't want to tip his hand in case she took them back to the UK with her? Or something along those lines... Maybe he didn't have the passports yet. Very weird all around though.

Absolutely revolting if true. Though I'm also extremely confused about how she found out because she should have been served with paperwork and since she was in the US and even attended his concert and presumably interacted with him on some level (if only regarding the kids), I really do not understand how on earth she wasn't served with the divorce papers before the divorce hit the news 4 days after filing. I mean probably you have more than 4 days to serve paperwork (it's likely something like 10 days or two weeks or something) but the point is that he absolutely had the opportunity to serve her (not like they had to chase her down in England) so the fact that she wasn't served seems shady, like he was cooking something up and therefore wanted to delay her finding out.

All of which lends itself toward your theory that he was trying to avoid alerting her of the divorce until he had secured the kids somewhere else, or she'd flown back to the UK, in order to get the upper hand in custody. Gross gross gross.

I don’t really follow them, but disagree that it’s horrible. They were allegedly planning to move to the UK as a family. Then they decided to get divorced. Why would Joe uproot his life and his kids in that case when they’ve lived in the US for the past how many years? Taking the kids to the UK now would be a stupid, vulnerable move.

Why do you assume Sophie was pressuring Joe to move? All we know is they sold their house in Miami and undertook plans to move to the UK, that Sophie has been filming there the last few months and that Joe brought the kids there over the summer. And we know Sophie is British, of course. There's zero evidence Sophie was pressuring Joe into anything.

Sophie is now alleging that he's withholding the kids' passports, keeping them in the US (thus forcing Sophie to come to the US if she wants to be with her kids, which presumably she does if she filed this suit). If true, that's cruel. Joe can't stop Sophie from being British, and can't stop his kids from being dual citizens. Sophie WILL be able to take the kids to the UK eventually, even if only for part of the year or for shorter visits. A judge couldn't prevent this unless Joe could prove that Sophie was denying him access to his kids -- as long as he had the kids during the times agreed to in a custody agreement, he can't prevent his British ex-wife from taking his half-British kids to the UK. He's just playing a game in order to try and get the upper hand in the divorce. That's gross.

WTH?? He took their kids out of the county on false pretenses and is withholding their passports. That is unacceptable. It's not like they were already in the U.S. and he's refusing to travel.
