I know for a fact Metro regional is still looking in the younger age groups. u13 - u14. Talked to one coach this morning.

I agree. For those that are new to club volleyball in the CHRVA region, tryouts used to be spread out over the first 2 weekends in November with the younger age groups happening the first weekend and the older age groups the second. I'm guessing clubs are struggling to manage filling all of their teams at one time and will probably still be looking to finalize rosters for several days and probably even into the weekend.

Regarding getting later offers meaning your DD will be a "roster filler", that might be true at a few clubs (usually the more competitive ones), but I don't think that is universal. Some clubs make an effort to get players into every match (e.g., MVSA) and if a team is on the less competitive side with less experienced players, it's not at all uncommon for starting lineups to shift throughout the season as players improve at different rates.

NP here. Your post is misleading. In prior years, any certain age group had one weekend, it wasn’t spread out for all age groups over 2 weekends. So last year we were U15 and those tryouts were over the same weekend from Friday to Sunday. There weren’t tryouts for U15 spread out over 2 weekends.

My DD is now U16 and that year just seems to be on steroids with 100+ girls showing up for a club that only has 1-2 teams in U16. And you’re not necessarily seeing the same group at different club tryouts, meaning there are just SO many girls in the DMV in U16 that want to play club. I find it just impossible that any club can’t find 12-15 girls to fill a roster with the insane number of girls that were trying out.

Not sure what age your DD is and what area, but clubs are still looking to fill spots. No Panic in Manassas still needs girls. Metro regionals also is having another makeup tonight and I know for a fact some of those coaches are still
Looking to fill spots in the 13-15 age groups. NVVA is also having another round tonight.

Not necessarily. My DD’s initial top choice just emailed an offer. She does not even know it yet. We had been set to accept another offer but this changes it up. Not certain what she will do since she really likes her other offers and had been set to accept one of those.

That's great news good luck in making the best decision for your child. This is pretty new to me. I know basketball and football tryouts don't function this way at all. I guess its a learning process.

Do you know which NO PANIC age groups still have openings?

For anyone who doesn’t have a team, we just got an email that No Panic is having additional tryouts.

November 8 & 9, 2023
Wednesday & Thursday
7:00PM - 8:30PM
11s-17s/18s
@ No Panic Manassas

Really nice developmental club, good coaches, nice girls, community focused. Dedicated practice space but pretty far out.

My guidance would be that if your DD is receiving an offer today, she’ll be a roster filler. After a long time being in the vball club world, go where the club really wants your kid, and where she’ll play.

Great advice.

+1. We learned this the hard way.

The address matches that of a Bed, Bath, and Beyond location ... which I'm guessing has closed. I don't frequent Manassas, so I haven't been out that way since summer.

I wonder if Paramount parents/families will pick up whatever rewards program the "adjacent" movie theater has. Might as well get current with the current/upcoming slate of movies while you are out there! Google/Bing Maps seems to suggest that there's Wendy's, Uno's, and Golden Corral in the parking lot with a Cracker Barrel on the other side of Sudley.

Given this move to Manassas and Metro Travel seemingly not crossing the Potomac for practices, I wonder how long it will take for the teams to become "almost" exclusively Virginia for Paramount and "almost" exclusively DC/Maryland for Metro Travel. I'm sure current players will stick with their chosen club, but the newest/youngest players and families may eventually opt for the club that's closest to home.

If you did your research before tryouts and she's sure it's her 1st pic still after tryouts, go for it. But whatever she likes best about the other offers, never hurts to call the club or email and ask about the characteristics your DD likes in the other clubs that she's considering. We had a #1 choice club our first time trying out, DD got an offer, but another club we were sure we liked better and we never regretted that decision because we knew other girls who went to the former #1 choice and we are sure it was right choice for us.
