Republicans causing a default is nothing but an act of terrorism. It will be an intentional attack on all of us. We will suffer, people will die. They are terrorists. Literally nothing less.

What recourse does the Congress have? It is constitutional to meet the faith and credit of the US on behalf of the Executive Branch.

The House has already passed the bill to do this. The ball is in the Senate's court along with Biden.

A bill that most of them immediately turned around and started walking back the second after voting for it.

You think anyone is buying this???

You passed a bill that holds the full faith and credit of the IS hostage to the insane demands of your base. That’s all you did.

And why wouldn’t Democrats turn around and demand a full repeal of the Trump Tax cuts as a starting point for these negotiations or let’s say when they might next be out of the White House? Maybe add every wish list Democratic priority while they’re at it? They are not serious negotiations nor is this a serious proposal. Pass a clean debt limit increase and negotiate the budget separately.

Sounds reasonable to me. Increase debt ceiling without conditions and deal with the budget during the budget process this summer and fall.

Biden cannot be trusted to do anything to reduce spending without something hanging over his head.
He screwed Manchin on the "Inflation Reduction Act." We know he cannot be trusted.

Why didn’t republicans reduce spending when they were in power?

Exactly this. Why do Republicans only care about spending when they aren't in the White House? GMAFB.

Why is it always reduce spending and not increase revenue (ie, taxes)?

Your side could always try winning an election if you want to reduce spending.

Yellen says we’ll hit the debt limit in early June and perhaps as soon as June 1. This is going to real fast.

It's bizarre that Republicans seem to think the debt is entirely because of spending and refuse to acknowledge that their own tax cuts added trillions to the debt.

No debt came from tax cuts. All debt is created by demanding things the federal govt is not chartered to do.

That charter is found in the U.S. Constitution. That is its only purpose. No more, no less.

ABSOLUTELY FALSE. Republican tax cuts created trillions in shortfalls, which is DEBT. You sound like a complete idiot.

As for the charter found in the US Constitution I'd also remind you that the charter clearly says

"The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;"

Common defense AND GENERAL WELFARE. That's a broad mandate that can't be ignored.

NOW INTERPRET THE GENERAL WELFARE CLAUSE FOR US.

This will be good.
