VA Elite has announced new coaches for their U12,U13,U14,U16. Are they good? I wonder where their U17 coach (the past season) go.

Just wait until they figure that they cannot attract reasonably good players to do the laundry at the three qualifiers.

100%. I wish I had half the confidence of some of these coaches who decide to start their own clubs. Coming out of the gate with teams at 4 age groups and a full schedule of 3 qualifiers and other competitive tournaments is bold. At least they have coaches listed for most age groups. Sometimes new clubs launch without having enough coaches identified or practice space arranged and then have to scale back after families have already paid which is less than good. Seems like some of their coaches are coming from the St. James and at least one of the coaches listed used to coach for Cap City Elite which doesn't appear to be around anymore.

I'd like to believe they have the best intentions, but it sure feels like it would be more prudent to start off a little less ambitious and get some teams established for a season or two before traveling all over the country to qualifiers.


It looks like they are all decently successful coaches.

There are always so many girls at tryouts for any given team, it makes sense to add clubs.

It also looks like they have plenty of experience running teams.

Does anyone know if they were mostly all coaches at the St James last year? And did something happen at the st James to make them break off? I see St James in the info. Just not sure if it was recent or not.

Agreed. And for new clubs the risk increases based on the number of club teams they are running their first year or their competition level target. We need more clubs in CHRVA to accommodate demand but too many of the new ones try to go too big too fast and flame out quickly. When they do its the players that suffer.

If you are looking at a club less than five years old, ask a lot of questions and pay close attention to the answers. Then ask any parents what they thought, especially compared to any established club experience they may have.

Pretty ambitious for a newly formed club. They will likely drag players who are barely ready for regionals into open division. I foresee a lot of disappointed players and frustrated parents.

Unfortunately they seem to be the only club within 30 min, considering weeknight traffic. Depending on practice times and traffic, there are a some other options within 30 minutes:
Libero Volleyball Club in Ashburn
BRYC in Burke
St. James in Springfield
Vienna Elite in Vienna
MOCO in Bethesda

If you are a first time club player, find the club that fits your families commute/cost requirement and that you have a chance of making a team for. Consider trying 2-3 of them prior to tryouts—if you just show up for tryouts it may be tough to get noticed. Some of the clubs above offer multiple teams at each age group (St James, Vienna elite and MOCO) so you may be able to find a team that fits you.

Some other closer in NOVA clubs are:
Alexandria Titans (my DD did some beach volleyball with them a few years ago and they were very nice people)
Monument
Metro South Fairfax
X-Factor

The fees for a few of these seem on the lower side, at least relative to VA Elite or MOJO.
Definitely follow the advice of attending a clinic or two of the clubs that you're interested in ahead of tryouts. Ups your DD's chances at tryouts for sure.

VA Elite in McLean. They are overpriced too, but what can you expect for living in one of the richest areas in the US.


You are responding to me and yes, it’s expensive here. We aren’t considering VA Elite with their astronomical providing. The mandatory travel package puts them over the top, considering we would still want to travel to watch DD play. So I guess it’s make a team at Mojo or keep driving. Any and all suggestions appreciated.
