Home alone in a familiar neighborhood isn’t the same as in a hotel room alone in a town or city you’ve never been to before.

How? In your neighborhood you know where to run to or where you can hide out. In a new town how would you know? Would you even know if your hotel was known for trafficking or having a rogue maintenance man?
Locally we know for example how Red Roof Inns roll on Richmond Hwy. We know where not to stay. In a new environment, would you really?

The general consensus (troll aside) seemed to be in the 10-14 range depending on parent, kid, and possibly situational factors.

I did this with a 10 yr old in Destin a few years ago. Believe it or not he survived, no one broke into the room, he didn’t disappear and he wasn’t kidnapped. The drink in the lobby bar was glorious.

I started leaving my son when he was maybe 10. I would put a do not disturb sign on the door.
Who needs my kid?!!!! I showed him the fire exits but otherwise I wasn’t concerned about anything.
I even did that abroad. He had a phone of course.

Like I said previously in this thread, if you have a kid who is a good sleeper and you have a wifi Ring camera - you can go down to the lobby for a drink, to read a book in peace, or just enjoy the outdoor patio on a warm evening.
It will literally take you 60 seconds to get back to the room if they start crying or get up. No big deal.
