Some of my facebook friends have reached out with invitations to share more about their former schools (which DC got in to) and/or contacts at the school or inside resources for internships. It would not have happened had I not shared part of the journey.

I'm not the pp you quoted, but I've considered posting on facebook for the reason I bolded above.
My kid is having a hard time deciding between two very different schools (one is a huge SEC school, the other is a medium size private in the midwest.) I've thought about posting and asking if any of my facebook friends have experience with either school, and could give any insight.

I will do this if the situation arises. I know my friends would want to advise. I fb messaged a few about applying to one school already. Good luck to your kid, and congrats on the dilemma! #happyproblem

Same. I can see it getting a bit much (like the person who posted 7 acceptances), but I like to celebrate my friends' kids, and they celebrate mine. And, they are all over, so it is a handy way to communicate.

To be fair, men are a little more clueless about the nuances of social media that women are more apt to pick up on and nitpik to death like what is going on here.

Posting where your kid got accepted or where they are going to college is only 'offensive' or 'not polite' if you and your circles are way too invested in and competitive about where other kids go to school. If someone is going to be triggered by where other kids go to school then that is their own problem they need to work on inside themselves.
