FBI was involved since the beginning. Doubt they will get involved after DR closed the case and parents asked that she be declared dead after only 11 days, the investigation is over. FBI did issue a warning and had an Interpol notice issued. That is very likely to be the end of it.

Shame the men from the bar and bartender were not thoroughly investigated.

In other cases, family has pushed, hired PIs, etc, here they asked for the opposite.

If Riibe is guilty, may be like Holloway case with incidents years later. If someone else saw an opportunity, tragic since no follow up. Trafficking is a lucrative business in DR, women are often said to end up in Haiti.

Per this DMV news story re the hearing, case is basically closed. Exactly as DR wanted it from the start. Her parents left after 3 days, when the videos came out.

If they both indeed got out of the water (as the person who was believed to have last seen her said) and he passed out, it's likely she did too also pass out on the sand/beach or maybe made it to a beach chair like he did. Both of them seemed to be in similar post-vomit condition. Except for the law firm sending a press release to one outlet there seems to be no media coverage.

If he’s innocent he can move on.

If it’s a Natalee Holloway situation, it may take many years to play out.

I hope she was not trafficked since search has ceased, in line with the original wish of DR. If not, RIP.

I 1000% perceived that move as he felt torn between turning to console/hug/comfort her and needing to stay facing the camera to finish his statement.

That was known to be DR law this whole time. It was not followed. AG was directly involved in questioning him. They tried to claim he was not technically detained.

In a Friday, March 28, press release shared with PEOPLE, the law firm announced that a judge issued a detailed judgment containing the court's legal reasoning for Riibe's immediate release.

According to the judgment, Riibe was "unlawfully detained surpassing the maximum period of 48 hours permitted under the Constitution of the Dominican Republic and the Dominican Code of Criminal Procedure," the press release said.

Because the boy allegedly claims he saved her when they were both nearly drowning and the last he saw her she was on the beach with him? If that's true, maybe some local men pounded in her in a solo drunken state. Who the hell knows! But it sounds like that wasn't even considered a possibility, because obviously it's better for business to point the finger at an American boy.

My in-laws just returned from a DR vacation and they said the entire place felt super sketchy and Third World. I have no interest in ever going there.


Can you share what that means? For those that don't know (no snark)? What's the correlation, "super sketchy" and "third world"? Are thirds world all "super sketchy"?
