Case continued for felony status conference to give the parties time to determine how to proceed.
Does anyone have insight into the defense counsel’s strategy here? Why withdraw the motion?
To avoid pissing off the judge more than necessary. Australian national, flight risk. Wife and kids already fled the country.
The nature of alleged history of crimes against children would make his release basically impossible.
+1. There was no realistic plan for his release that would adequately address the threat to the community and the fact that he is a flight risk. You also generally get one bite at the apple with this type of motion (you can file multiple requests like Diddy did, but you need to put your best foot forward with the first request because the subsequent requests get less consideration), so you need to have every concern adequately addressed.
Makes sense, but then why file the motion in the first place?

Can someone explain what this means?

Was she the Fox News host? If so, I didn’t realize she’s now the U.S. Attorney prosecuting this case against Mahony.
Yes. This is literally the perfect case for her to tackle as one of her first - taking down a foreign child predator on U.S soil.
