The parents likely knew where he was and were hoping that he was living in the reserve. However after so many weeks of him missing they probably thought the worst and decided to personally trek out to the reserve so they could participate in the search and hopefully find him alive.
It appears he was indeed where he claimed he would be, but sadly for his parents he likely killed himself there. They probably knew that if he were alive, then the FBI would have found him by now. After five weeks had passed they came to the conclusion that he likely was deceased and this morning went out to the Carlton Reserve to prove their suspicions correct.

Not sure who found the human remains.

If the remains are not Brian Laundrie then I will be very surprised for sure.

When Gabby’s family was calling the Laundries, inquiring where she was or what they actually knew, etc., I just find it cruel that they never responded back.
While hiring a lawyer + deciding against speaking publicly is their fundamental right - morally they should have responded to Gabby’s parents and let them know what they knew.

By doing this, they only made themselves look bad.

Of course it made them look bad, but it was the smart thing to do. It’s 100% what I would have advised my clients to do as well. we don’t know what Brian told them. He may have told them absolutely nothing. Remember, her body wasn’t even found until after Brian left. They may have had zero clue that was something wrong. Brian left only two days after she was announced missing- that could have been a complete shock to the parents who could have led to him feeing a need to flee. He could have played her disappearance off as something he has no idea about. We simply don’t know what they knew or thought.

They absolutely knew something was wrong. Their son drive out west with his live-in fiancé and drove home without her. Something was definitely wrong. Even if he said they broke up, they didn’t want to know where she was? They didn’t think anything of all the calls and texts from her parents asking if they had heard anything? They didn’t think to respond “well our kid is here, no clue where your kid is”??

Exactly. That’s what is so off about their behavior. Then the seemingly indifference about their missing son for weeks.

How would we know whether or not they are indifferent, or that they didn’t want to know where she was, or that he didn’t make up a story explaining everything away?

They didn't do a single press conference.

They didn't answer a single phone call from Gabby Petito's family.

They didn't post any messages anywhere on social media.

They didn't release a letter to a local or national news source.

Hell, they could have printed out a memo and tacked it to their garage door.

Instead they were silent. That's indifference.

He probably kept the journal in a ziplock bag. I used to do this when I brought a journal hiking or camping.

The water level varies in the swampy area where they were found. Apparently earlier in the search the body and belongings were underwater, and now the water level has gone down and they were exposed.

You are speculating about all of this. It's frightening how fast the "Court of Public Opinion" makes judgments before they have heard any of the facts. The fact that the Laundries haven't spoken publicly is taken as evidence that every wild accusation against them is true. It may be that all of this is true. It may not be. What is so bad about waiting to hear from the Police? If the Police were to make a statement that the Laundrie's have been cooperating all along and were instrumental in finding Brian's remains (the latter appears to be the case), will you feel differently?

You better hope none of your children ever do anything wrong, since you seem to believe that the parents are always responsible for the sins of their children.

The "Police" in North Port haven't seemed like the brightest bulbs here...and yes, I definitely think they were instrumental in finding his remains. I think the theory floating around that they knew where he was hiding in the preserve and were hoping he was alive could be accurate. If they went to this spot themselves when it reopened to the public, found him, and then decided to 'lead' authorities to him to try and get the public/LE off their backs, it frankly makes more sense than deliberately stonewalling access to their child when his fiance who lived with them for a year plus was missing (and he came home in her van).

Why else wouldn't you report him missing right away? Other than to give him a head start? And how do you mix up the day he left?
