"The Pfizer vaccine reduces viral loads, increasing evidence that vaccines protect against infection as well as disease. This is not unexpected but important to support this with robust evidence before adjusting guidance."
Can someone explain in layman's terms what it means that the vaccines protect against transmission via reduced viral loads? So if you have the vaccine and still contract covid, your viral load is reduced? But very few people who get the vaccine are actually getting covid, right?
I thought the issue was whether or not vaccinated people could somehow not get covid but yet transmit the disease (which seems crazy to me, so I don't really understand how we would still transmit covid if we aren't getting covid).
Thanks!
I think you are correct. That's my understanding at least.
People can be immune (and not get infected) while still having live virus particles live inside their nose and other areas. These particles can be transmitted to other people who don't have immunity.
This is how its been explained to me.
When live virus particles enter a nose, they are going to go after a cell so they can reproduce. If they enter a vaccinated person, they will be attacked and destroyed upon entry. They aren’t just sitting around in your nose indefinitely plotting to swing over to another nose. If they can’t reproduce, they are done.

I believe experts have been saying we need to be at 2 - 3 million a day, so this is a big milestone to hit. Hopefully it keeps increasing from here as supply increases and the military and FEMA are deployed.
