How did this group get so much power over women even when the voting public does NOT want this. If we don’t show up at the polls in overwhelming numbers, more of this is to come.

I will maintain until proven otherwise: the “mainstream” media’s obsession with framing forced birthers as just folks, not adequately addressing their crimes in furtherance of their ideology, the religious underpinnings, etc allowed them to masquerade as “fifty percent of the country.” Except that it never was that, and when people have more information, they understand why abortion rights are basic human needs.

Not to mention the vast numbers of allegedly forced birther women who have themselves gotten abortions.

I have seen some of the MAGA on Twitter praising this as a great outcome because the baby was "saved." Not the 13 year old baby, mind you, whose life is now pretty much destroyed. But again, once a baby is born the GOP turns its head and couldn't care less about it.

They will, like the with the ten year old rape victim, clutch at straws: it isn’t true. it’s her mother’s fault. it’s an immigrant’s fault. it wasn’t rape and she was asking for it. it’s the doctor’s fault. it’s the fault of pro choice thinking.

Forced birthers are stupid people without even so much as two bits of empathy to rub together to start a fire for warmth.

Yes, I've already seen it, anti-abortionists saying the real question is why we aren't going after the creep who raped her. Never mind that's a question for the local police department, which has not been pursuing the case. And it's a little too late for that 12 year old once she's been raped if you don't offer her means to end the pregnancy.

Greg Abbott said his abortion law wouldn't punish raped women and girls because his state was going to make rape go away, so female of pregnancy age wouldn't have to worry about that horrible prospect (pat pat your pretty little head). How do you think that's going?

Updated reporting shows that even though a police report was immediately filed, they only came to collect DNA after the baby was born. I mean yeah that’s an open and shut case but imagine if police actually done anything to help this poor child! The police chief said as his excuse that “things slip a little”

Men don't care about rape. Police don't care about rape. Women are often -OFTEN- not believed. There was a great article in the Atlantic a few years ago that laid it out pretty plainly.
And the fact is, there are 10's of thousands of rape kits in backlog across this country. Not only preventing rapists from being caught but, since these folks often are criminal in other ways, prevent other crimes from being solved as well.

Having read a few articles around that subject, when they have bothered to get off their butts and investigate, many of those rapists are serial rapists. Had they done their jobs and gotten those creeps off the street, who knows how many women and girls would not have been victimized.

“Things slip a little when you’re pretty sure she was asking for it.” That’s what he meant.

Things slip a little when you assume everyone else cares as little for this child as her local police do….too bad they were absolutely right. There would have been no follow up for this child if there hadn’t been media attention.

But the media can’t focus on every single act of rape of a child, especially when local police can’t be bothered to do their jobs. The BaCk ThE bLuE crew never has anything to say about the abject failure of police across the country to fail to investigate rape. They’ll pretend to be up in arms about trans women in sports, they’re obsessed with TrAfFiCkInG mInOrS and drag queens, but they require jack all from the police force in regards to actually investigating rapes so that they can be prosecuted.

If Ashley was a skinny, white girl from a two-parent family (i.e. 12 yr old white Ashley has a bright future), I think there would be more outrage about this. But, my imaginary white Ashley from a family with enough financial means doesn't get to the situation that the real black Ashley came to, because the imaginary white Ashley's parents get her to a state that has abortion and the matter is resolved.

I know a girl who was like my imaginary white Ashley. She got pregnant at 15 (not through rape by a stranger). She was taken for an abortion. Although her parents divorced, she went to college... and is now a successful lawyer.

One could infer from the lack-luster interest by the pro-life group (and law enforcement), that restricting abortion services is really about punishing the poor and especially black girls and women.

It is really awful. I knew there would be a "parade of horrors" from Dobbs. This is it.

It’s certainly a part of it. The kind of men who thought that visiting an enslaved girl for sex (rape) enjoyed the punishment aspect. It’s not like they taught their sons any different.

This is horrific. I would have driven down there and brought her back up to VA for an abortion and paid for it too. Is there any direct way to help girls like these?

Donate to Abortion Access Funds. National network here https://abortionfunds.org/ and there is one for each state.

Rapes didn't go away and are still happening. Greg Abbott pushed his stupid lie in order to push a legislative agenda which is now endangering women. He should get his ass sued off.

I’ve never once seen these forced birth hoodlums acknowledge rape culture and what the existence of rape culture means for victims of rape. They tacitly condone rape.
