Yes that was my thought - it's like the third world or shady stuff that happens.in Italy where people pocket money rather than maintain. The focus in dc is entirely wrong.. livability is out of whack, but build more and demand to be recognized as a state! This Mayor, Council and GGW sux..can't believe our pole have so little integrity

The situation is even worse. Tried to claim that the collapse was only the result of a collision. But it was in poor repair and they did nothing. And shouldn't a bridge on a road be able to withstand a crash anyway?

I'm very ill and cannot drive. The escalator in my neighborhood has been broken for more than a year. Now the surrounding lines seem to be permanently broken. This is extremely dangerous for me.

The police know where the guns are. Or some of them at least - the registered ones. They need to tell those people to turn them. They have to start somewhere. Might as well be with the ones they actually know about.


Hate to break it to you, but the Supreme Court sort of said the govt can't do that.

DC politicians don't say "what did you expect?" They rebrand the behavior as normal. I'm the one who has a problem if I object to criminal behavior or quality of life violations. I'm the one who needs to "do better."

That’s the problem...the loss of peace and security for average law abiding, tax paying residents, while the government bends over backward to accommodate those who take that peace and security. And everyone is basically on their own in DC. 911 is a failure, the cops don’t give a rip, even firehouses respond lackadaisically (I’ve witnessed it). The government counts on you to keep yourself secure. It’s an illusion. You are on your own.

Actually, from reading a lot of responses here, they would argue that you are required to accept criminality and loss of safety as an expectation and necessity of living in the city. “What do you expect?” they ask.

No - because many white women see a black man and automatically become scared. I've seen it. I've seen white women freak out if a black man gets on an elevator, gets too close in the store, etc.


Women freak out when men get close to them in general, including white, hispanic, and asian men. All men deal with this (worrying about being perceived as a threat when walking too close to a woman in the evening or being the only two people in an elevator in a strange building)

Because he was under the influence of alcohol or some narcotic (Maybe PCP/spice). This behavior isn't unique to DC as I have seen plenty of it across the river in places like Clarendon and Rosslyn. The common factors seem to be homelessness and intoxication.
