Interesting article. The reporter implied that there’s a great mystery about his death but didn’t bother to get the death certificate information from NC.

A very good man ? When the SAG hit a man, whose face left an imprint in the windshield, this sheriff did a cursory look in the general area, missed seeing a severed leg and the body of the victim, though he was next to his flashlight still turned on. Then he lent the SAG his car to drive home. Nothing to see here.
He may be a good friend to the SAG, but he was not a good man.

Very distasteful for you to say such a thing. It actually sounds like he was suffering from cancer. And if you read that link, he sounds like a really good man. He only made $50k a yr, didn't carry a gun, and didn't write tickets. He was 69 years old.

Not to look a gift horse in the mouth but he needed to be in jail. He murdered a man. Now he can join any law firm in South Dakota, and someone will hire him, and just live his life. I'm glad he's fired. I'm glad whatever political aspirations in his life were cut oh so tragically short - but because of 2020 we tend to look at impeachment as the ultimate end. No, a long-term prison sentence is.
