Worldwide...
Amsterdam, London, Milan, Paris, Toronto...there's no "confusion" about what the term means.
It's only here in anonymous cyberspace where people love to argue for the sake of arguing cause they ain't got shit else to do that y’all bored antagonists are baffled and bothered by the name Black Lives Matter.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:All lives matter.
That is true, but only in theory. Because right now, NOT all lives matter. You can't say "All Lives Matter!" when one part of the ALL is being discriminated against over and over.
We know this is true because time and time again, BLACK people are singled out and killed for simply existing.
Therefore, until BLACK lives matter, all lives DO NOT matter.
All means all.
Lots of these killings are problematic, but please don't scare people into thinking that they are targeted for simply existing.

This afternoon we were on a Zoom conference call with approximately 200 people from our division. There were no slides, just the boxes with faces. You know how it works, the primary is top left, your own box is right next to it and then there are another 18 or so people in some random order. For the time period I'm talking about, everyone on the main page is a POC except for me.
We are about 5 minutes into the meeting and the boss is talking about "recent events." As he was talking he said "...Black Lives Matter..." 18 people leaned forward to unmute and said, "all lives matter" and then they re-muted. If they had practiced it they could not have been in more perfect unison.
Make of it what you will.
My impression is that people don't think that a lot of what is happening is a good reflection of them, how far they've come, the successes they've achieved, and their dreams for themselves and their children. They are outraged by the criminal behavior. And they are embarrassed, completely mortified, by language and behavior of some of the people who have been giving interviews on tv.
As an adult who was raised in a mixed race home and who, with my husband, has created a mixed race family, I am torn. But I tend more towards All Lives Matter because I don't like the exclusion and I think there is room for everyone under the umbrella.

I worked for a year in the DC government. I was the only white person there and it was made clear to me they hired me to be their diversity, never gave me any real work to do, were completely inappropriate with their insistence I do things like put up their christmas tree in the office (which I did but they complained I did it wrong - I thought I did great given it was my first Christmas tree and I don't celebrate Christmas), wouldn't give me access or any supplies (fine, I brought my own including a computer) and made all kinds of racial and other comments. My only saving grace was I had some great co-workers who tried their best to shield me from much of it. They won and I quit but I just stayed to get the work experience on my resume even though I did secretarial and cleaning most of the time for them vs. my actual skill set.
I went to work for a county. White supervisor told me she was told not to hire me or any white people as they were looking for specific race but I was the only one qualified so they hired me. It was made clear I'd never be promoted and that my race was an issue. Not sure if it was good or bad she told me but it was clear what was going on in the agency.
These things should not happen to anyone of any race but they do. Its life. You either deal with it or leave.
Okay, sure you had one bad experience. But, you can jog without getting shot. You can get pulled over for speeding without getting shot. You can shop in any store without makeup and get a hello (unlike a billionaire like Oprah). Your family hasn't been subject to systemic racism for generations.
Actually two, and yes, I can get shot for speeding. Look at the statistics of police killings. And, no I don't always get a help or help at stores, especially depending on how I dress. And, my family is jewish so yes, we do know a bit about it but my grandparents were too worried about surviving the holocaust, but let me guess, you don't believe that happened or it wasn't important.
Still doesn't warrant a name change.
Black Lives Matter
All Lives Matter - even Blue Lives.
Did someone say they didn’t? You care about all lives so much? Go foster some kids. Go build a homeless shelter. Go start your own movement and protest that all lives matter. Make sure you stay on top of the police brutality and murders of civilians. Make sure you organize a rally each time. Then make sure you go to the police station to ask them how they fill about the murders. You won’t have any time to spend on DCUM.
I did adopt, including one with special needs. I have spent many hours volunteering. I work in a helping profession. I am active at school and the PTA. What have you done?
I am actually LOL that you think being active in the PTA means something to this issue.

If all of the people who would support "All Lives Matter" get together and successfully address police brutality for "all lives" -- then black people will no longer have an issue with police brutality and BLM can disband because there will be no more work to do. Win-Win.

There’s just so much ignorance in the world. Can we please stop with any example that suggests racism is a singular, individualized act? It is an incredibly deep-seeded, socialized, and pervasive element of our society that will never be “fixed” as long as *any* race claims to be color blind, but especially white people as part of the dominant racial group in America. This is bigger than any one person’s experience as an individual (or the tone deaf and entirely unproductive “examples” of white people getting shot by cops).
