I think he was giving treats to the dog to lure it out of the bushes where it was disrupting the birds.
no, he was using it as leverage to scare her into leashing her dog. it’s clear that he’s the one that started the escalation. her escalation may have been unjustified but it didn’t come out of nowhere.
His choice to call the dog to him didn't come out of nowhere. She was breaking the law and endangering something he cared about by doing so. Her refusal to leash the dog is what escalated a situation in which she was already breaking the law.
Calling the dog to him, since it was running stray, and turning it over to animal control (which I doubt he was going to do) would have been totally reasonable.
yeah, no way he would have done this to a big dude with a pitbull.
yes it is relevant. he felt comfortable escalating with a small woman.

It's interesting that you're focusing on what the man would've done in another situation. What about what the woman would've done if a white man or woman approached her. Do you think she still would've called the police?
I think if a man of any race threatened to lure her dog away she would have reacted similarly. her reaction may have been more fearful due to race, though. I also think it’s a good point that he wouldn’t have done that to any man (of any race). it’s not one-dimensional here.
Well since we’re making wild ass guesses about what she would have done had a white man requested she leash her dog, I think she would have put him on a leash, as requested, and walked away. Which is what she should have done when a black man requested she obey the law.
You know how you stop your dog from being lured away... you leash them.
the point is - she was scared in response to what she percieved as a threat to her dog. it’s right there in his facebook post. her reaction was also threatening. it was an escalation that he started — which does not make her right, but also does not support the twitter narrative that she was faking it.
NP. Yes, she was so scared that she came right up to him. Did you see the video? Those are not the actions of someone who is scared. If you think a person is threatening you or your dog, you don't walk right up to them and engage them further. You get the hell away from them.
On Facebook, Christian Cooper wrote, “Central Park this morning: This woman’s dog is tearing through the plantings in the Ramble.” He described the conversation he says occurred before he began recording with his cell phone:
ME: Ma’am, dogs in the Ramble have to be on the leash at all times. The sign is right there.
HER: The dog runs are closed. He needs his exercise.
ME: All you have to do is take him to the other side of the drive, outside the Ramble, and you can let him run off leash all you want.
HER: It’s too dangerous.
ME: Look, if you’re going to do what you want, I’m going to do what I want, but you’re not going to like it.
HER: What’s that?
ME (to the dog): Come here, puppy!
HER: He won’t come to you.
ME: We’ll see about that…

Keep thinking that (bolded statement). I guess that's what helps you go to sleep at night not having to worry about injustice.
read my second sentence. I worry a lot about injustice, and I don’t think twitter mobs based on facebook posts and contextless videos really help fight injustice.
The fact that you are more worried about the injustice of a racist woman who would accuse a man standing there recording her on his phone of being an African American man in the park threatening and attacking her and her dog in a hysterical voice and demand that the police come immediately being twittered mobbed, than you are for the injustice of a blatently false racial and sexual assault charge that could get him beaten, arrested and possibly killed by the police speaks justice.
You are not worried about injustice. You are worried about preserving white privilege and white bigots being punished for abusing their privilege. If you weren't, you would be more worried about what she tried to do to that man, than you were about her facing repercussions for what she did.

Anonymous wrote:My quick assessment of this woman is that she is nuts. She had an instagram page for her dog and she documented several injuries to her dog. I think she hurt him herself.
She does deserve to be publicly embarrassed. Let's see what she did, I am sure I am missing some too:
1. She's a f*ing racist to say a black man was threatening her
2. pulling out the ol' woman vs. man dynamic (for everyone who says to always believe the 'victim').
3. choking the poor dog and having him off leash
4. making a false 911 call.
