And I don't think the reason is solely because Prep families prefer Notre Dame and Georgetown.
I would agree with this. The top 10% are very similar at both schools. However, the bottom 75% or so at STA are much stronger than the bottom 75% at Prep. There are few to no kids at STA that aren't very academic kids. The college admissions also reflect this--the top 10 or so are similar but the bottom 75% admits at STA are much stronger than the bottom 75% at Prep.

The preference of Prep and Gonzaga families for Georgetown, ND, and BC is real.
And these families are anywhere near as bedazzled by the Ivies as those at STA and some other private schools. Part of this is due to family traditions and connections. Part of it is that these people don’t work in areas like Big Law where “credentials” have such importance. And there is increasing concern that these Ivies are indoctrinating students in ways that are inconsistent with their values.
It may be hard for some to believe and accept. That may be caused by their own bias.

No smart athletes available?
No smart athletes interested?
No athletic "*recruitment" by the STA Athletic Department at all? (*Recruitment as defined and allowed by the IAC rules)
If your observation is correct, STA ought to seriously consider moving down a level from the IAC to the MAC.
Because the rest of the IAC seems to be increasing it's emphasis on Athletic success.
Prep is replacing a perfectly good football/lacrosse field with a complete new stadium. They aren't doing that envisioning third place finishes.

I know more Catholics, Mormons and Atheists at STA than I do Episcopalians
