Is that "a lot"? I guess it could be --- it doesn't seem that impressive though, but then again there are probably only about 625 (approximately) spots on top 25 teams nationwide.
It'd be interesting to see how that compares to other clubs in the area --- that number might be more impressive than it appears to me.

There are 163 DA and ECNL teams. So if top 25 level talent were evenly distributed among those 163 teams you would expect 4 players from each team to be playing top 25 soccer.

Remember that BRYC developed those players long BEFORE it was an ECNL team.

People forget that ECNL is only a platform and that moving a team or club to ECNL does not magically transform them into better players.

Fair enough, but doesn't it give a chance for players to showcase in front of colleges? I agree being on a weaker team is a disadvantage, but it's not necessarily insurmountable. Plus, those players can play against better competition, which may improve their abilities.

The point is obviously that top-25 college team players can come from non-ECNL and non-DA clubs.

Most of these players have been with numerous clubs. And most of these players are getting some money, but not a full ride. It all depends on what a player (and her family) is looking for at the next level. Playing time? Better school than they would have gotten into without soccer? Top DI program?

Umm...they are the legacy ECNL clubs in the area. Players were drawn to those clubs to participate.

Someone said it best earlier, the player should claim credit for their accomplishment. There are many area trainers and coaches who are not ECNL affiliates who do a great job. Lots of private training too. Ultimately, it's the player's innate talent, drive, and effort that gets them noticed and recruited, by the clubs you mention and colleges.

The clubs have not built the players. It's quite the opposite.

If the player didn’t leave Gunston would McLean have had as talented a team? Did McLean fundamentally change the player creating the opportunity or did the exposure that McLean offered create the opportunity? At some point UNC had to make a choice for a player and in that moment it is WHO the player fundamentally is a person and as a soccer player that makes the biggest difference.

They went to the club for the recruiting platform, not to "be developed." Whomever worked with that fictitious kid at Gunston up to U13 did a great job in teaching them the basic skills needed to make it at the ECNL level. The player had the talent and displayed the effort needed to be recruit-level. I think that same player would be recruited whether they were at McLean, BRYC, or FCV.

If you are taking your kid at 13 to a club to be recruited and not developed you are a crazy person.

Stop taking points to their extreme. Of course the kid will learn new things at the club, the main point is that this is available both within those clubs and at other non-ECNL clubs and private training. The difference is the platform and connections. If you think those clubs “made those players,” you are crazy. Or a staffer.
