I'm referring here to just plain, basic Hollywood that needs to be investigated. We need to know if female actresses can get jobs without getting sexually assaulted.

Why not?

It's been this way for ages sadly. My theory is that the extent to which men in Hollywood used and abused Marilyn Monroe contributed greatly to her downfall.

True, but why aren't we demanding a federal investigation of the industry, now that we know how widespread the crimes are?

It's a valid question.

Could one of the attorneys here please weigh in?
Thank you.

No it's a step towards blowing that story up to. A smokescreen... please ignore all the raped women... they are just a smokescreen.

If you had, you would know you can't simply blow up your harasser without doing serious damage to yourself and your reputation. If you see a powerful man at work possibly sleeping with the hot new secretary, how do you know it isn't consensual? What are you supposed to do, go to the HR department of your big law firm and report that the managing partner seems to be having sex with a young secretary?

What Weinstein did is despicable. And it continued because countless people -- including the women he victimized -- failed to stand up and say something. He was an incredibly powerful man who did this to women who were not yet powerful at all. I think it's crappy to blame them and others instead of the the ONLY person who deserves the blame here -- Weinstein.

Yep. When the hiring partner of NYC Dechert many years ago tried to "neg" me one evening by telling me I could use more time on the Stairmaster, I was just a summer associate. Given the climate at the time, I didn't seriously consider doing anything about it. Powerful men who harass know how to do it in ways that escape repercussion.

YES, and ruin your career. Law firms know all the loopholes...

CAN YOU NOT BLAME VICTIMS

I'm not blaming the victims...what Harvey did was wrong.

But what respectable woman takes a meeting in a man's hotel room? Befuddling. Meet in an office. Meet in a restaurant.

You’ve got to be kidding me.

No, I'm not. No respectable woman would take a meeting in a man's hotel room. It puts him in a position of power. Smart women select the location and take control.

Are you a male?

Wanted to know if awful HW experience and recent revelations have prompted her to leave acting and focus on activism. No criticism intended. Loved her in Ya-Ya Sisterhood movie.

Lots of interviews are done in hotel suites.

I did an interview with the FBI in a hotel suite.

Female who interviewed for a retail management position for Macy’s in 1992 in a hotel suite with a male hiring manager.

Our entire law firm recruitment week was done in hotel rooms. It was bit creepy having to meet with two guys and describe my career interests in a room with a king-size bed, but it was not optional if you wanted a job. As an older law student, who had been sexual harrassed on the job prior to law school, I wasn't comfortable with this, but Georgetown career services thought it was A-OK, because they arranged it, so I was in no position to complain

Haha right?? Would have loved to see the reaction if I'd told some top firm that no actually, we would be conducting our OCI interview at a place of MY choosing, because I am a "smart woman".

1. He was a huge deal. There is no way these aspiring actresses could set the location.
2. I have a friend who works in the entertainment industry and is is very common practice to meet outside of the office in all sorts of places.
3. Did you know a lot official on campus recruiting interviews actually take place in hotel rooms? I guess if women at top business and law schools participate in that it's their fault if something happens?

+1 all my law firm interviews were conducted in hotel rooms. Also if you truly think "Smart women select the location and take control" was a reasonable thing to say about this situation, you are not an intelligent person. Do you not understand the position of power and influence he was in? He called ALL the shots in terms of when / where / of such a meeting occurred. As an unknown aspiring 22 year old actress...you were "lucky" to even get a meeting with him, you would have been laughed (or maybe yelled...) out of town if you tried to come in and strongarm the logistics. How do you not get that?

Furthermore, if you read up it's pretty well-documented that he coerced them to his hotel room - he'd set up a meeting in the lobby or bar, then "forget" the script up there. He'd have the woman arrive at the hotel and the front desk would tell her last minute that actually, she needed to go up to his room to meet him. He'd have her invited to an industry party, and she'd arrive all dressed up and be led to...an empty hotel room. He was conniving and relentless and manipulative and knew exactly what he was doing.

We used to interview in hotel suites but if it was one-on-one we always propped the front door open. It just made everybody (including the interviewer) feel safer.
