I believe PP meant that it is ridiculous to say Whitman is so segregated that kids have never met minorities, just as it is ridiculous to say other areas are filled completely with gang members. With that I agree; not so sure about what the movie theater comment meant.

with its 0-5% URM population, Whitman is super diverse!!@

All of them, frankly.
No SES diversity but nice colorful classes.
If you were AA and had money, where would you send your kids?

I’m a Pyle poster and feel the same way. I don’t think I realized just how segregated it would be when I moved here. It can’t prepare my kids for the real world. I hope this is something that changes.

Is this typical behavior for the W's?

Whitman is located in a segregated area where kids have never met a minority. It isn't a surprise that many lack empathy because of the sheltered existence
.

This is much of a stereotype as saying all of silver spring is ganglandia. While there is normally a little truth in most stereotypes, people don’t get to pick and chose which ones to propagate and base policy off of.

Ban black people from movie theaters and we can talk about integrating Whitman

I'm a new poster. And I have to say, that one of the criteria that my husband and I were big on was finding a school cluster with true diversity. I was lucky enough to attend schools with real diversity but one of the things that I'm noticing in my adult life is that many of my white friends, coworkers, etc. who went to primarily white schools don't really have black friends and are pretty uncomfortable when being the minority in a group of black people. I even have a coworker who was apprehensive about going to a particular restaurant when she saw pictures on yelp that there were a good number of black patrons. The truth is many of them would say that they truly enjoy the diversity of this area but their actions speak very differently. I find this really disturbing and would never want my kids to grow up like that.

.Are you implying that the use of this word is only common amongst low performing high schools? you're kidding right? Um I hear this word everywhere. Upcounty, down county, etc. I was at Mont Mall the other day and heard a group of kids from Walter Johnson say it.

But that doesn’t mean white kids should be using that word at pyle and Whitman—it’s a totally different context.

I’m one of the Pyle posters and I’d love more diversity. But it would be a good first step for Pyle to figure out how to make the place less hostile to, like, everyone. There’s one black AP and maybe three or four black teachers. I can’t imagine any teachers of color would actively want to work there. I think it would be a hard community to join for a black adult, forget kids. But plenty of Pyle parents want to see that change. Anyone here saying they don’t want diversity isn’t speaking for all Pyle parents at all.

W parents are obsessed with Blair. It's most often because their little snowflakes failed to make the cut, and deep down they know it's a better school.

It's true W parents are fixated on Blair, but this post is about their kids running wild using the N Word and Heiling Hotler.

Ironic that a bunch of Pyle parents managed to turn a thread about racist and antisemitic white kids into a thread about how their snowflakes really need LESS diverse peer groups.
