I would not consider a high school lacrosse coach as "a public figure". C'mon people..

I agree. Besides, being a high school lacrosse coach for a team in the DMV that takes lacrosse seriously (MIAA, iAC, WCAC) is basically a public figure in these parts.

As far as I know the new coach is still trying to get his bearings. Someone who went to the 8th grade boys' sports night at SJC last week commented that he seemed a bit overwhelmed. So, don't know if he or his staff are engaged in any recruiting or scouting. I welcome others' thoughts in case I am mistaken.

I am cringing that this man is being openly discussed on here.

Different poster. Who knows whether he was there scouting or not. And who is to say he has not reached out to SJC applicants. The SJC lacrosse program needs new blood, energy and sanity. Many of us are hoping he is the one...

A previous poster said he saw Speaks at NL recently scouting talent. I was simply repeating what the PP said. I, too, wish him success.

My son plays at SJC and I've talked with Coach Spaeks a few times. (Not about playing time or any other of the usual DC parent nonsense). He listens intently. That could come across as odd or overwhelmed. We're all so used to salesmen in coaching.

I saw him at Next Level on Saturday, scouting the 7th and 8th grade teams. He's got a REAALLY late start (thanks Trig). He said he's 'making the rounds'.

I'd say his best selling point is that a talented freshman can come in and contribute on varsity.

Coach Speaks is a good guy, he cares about the kids and we'll all know about him as a head HS coach very soon.

My impression is that he is a good guy. Maybe too good. Hope those lax parents don't eat him alive.

Landon is the most talented team in IAC. Gonzaga for WCAC. Season starts in a couple of weeks and we will see how these teams compete.

Until Bullis is dethroned they will be the team to beat in the IAC.

Landon will be the clear winner of the IAC.

The more interesting thing to watch is who will grab second.
