No one has denied that educational preparation is a good thing. People have a problem with showing kids test questions before the test.

You do not need to show kids test questions bsfore the test to prepare or prep for a test.

This fuss over responsible parents who know the best preparation for children is when they are young.

This is common sense and not cheating. And we should be grateful we have the will and resources to provide this enrichment for our young.

Why all the hate towards preppers? Do you kids not study for a test? It's pretty much the same. Also, keep in mind that if prepping with actual exam, which sounds crazy, how can one get the test? I know the FCPS teacher did and actions were taken. IF the child is prepped and gets into AAP, if that child does not have the actual smarts, time will tell or the parents will have to spend a lot of money on tutors. From the couple of responses on this board, seems like there are great tutors ready, willing and able to help your child. This is such a first world problem! There are children out there in the world that do not know what clean drinking water is!!!! You are all arguing about test prep, give it a rest and focus your energy on solving some BIGGER problems!

I got it. All moms and test tubes with fetuses should under a vaginal ultrasound guided administered CogAT test. This will screen out cheating and prepping.

No, just questions that are very, very similar. And I would say, maybe the same form, but not the same format.... Or is it the other way around? ... I can't remember which, but, really they're not the same and it is really, really not cheating. Really. Because you can't believe anything the county says. Really.

Another tutor and former MCPS teacher:

Do you want to ace all your courses and all internal and external?

You can start any time. Twice a wk 1 hr sessions with some homework required.

I work with many kids year round (and summer) through elementary and middle school.

Hey, I am in the tutoring business. If you want your kids to ace all their tests and exams just PM me. I do not use the exact test questions so you will not be accused of cheating.
My methods are impeccable and kids are responsive.

References upon request.

This isn't that difficult. This thread has not been about general good educational activities that teach children about hard work and study. Here is what it's about:

The CogAT is an ability test, meant to measure ability, not knowledge. It has nothing to do with the SAT and the ACT, which are subject matter tests.

"Prepping/Scamming the Cogat" = the practice of showing children ability test question types that the children are not supposed to see until the day of the test.

CogAT test prep consists of courses or books that involve practicing over and over again the types of questions that a child can expect to see on the CogAT.

"Hard work, study and preparation" have nothing to do with this test. The company even says that the scores are not reliable if a child takes it twice within a certain length of time: that is because a child will get a higher score simply because of familiarity with the test format. Just think how unreliable the score is if the child has been doing the questions over and over again for months.

Stop prepping but hire tutors for your children. That is the only fair thing that levels the true playing field for our children.

Prepping/Scamming the CogAT is wrong because the county says it is. Carol Horn said it is. And by prepping I mean drill and practice with the actual test (or extremely similar tests).

The people who get hurt by one child prepping are the kids that did well on the test without prep, but there scores are diluted because of your prepped brat.

Stop hallucinating. Prep advice is a freebie. Kids liberate thyself and reverse the country's economic tailspin. The youth is our savior not have been do nothing old biddies.

Work hard in school and prepare for all your tests.
