Quite honestly, that team last night (all three principals and their IB coordinators) convinced me that IB is the way to go. After what they explained, seeing a "Critical Thinking" course wedged into a curriculum somewhere as an afterthought won't do it for me. Critical thinking (and all the other pieces to the IB puzzle) has to be part of everything they do, down to the extracurricular activities they pursue. It may not be the right fit for students who need right or wrong answers to do well or who experience trouble in team-work and break-out sessions; but it totally fits my bill for a rigorous education that connects seamlessly with what college education (or even the workplace) will ask of them soon enough.
Unfortunately, I live nowhere near Jefferson MS, but anyone living nearby or familiar with its past glory, is well advised to give that academy some serious consideration, certainly if you feel good leadership counts for something.
