No one cares that Gus runs StBW (his private training company) - it’s the way he uses it to manipulate parents and players into getting more playing time by paying him on the side. GFR wanted to manage it so they could ensure it was accessible to any player who wanted the training and not just a select few. And any “cut” they took was for field permits which are not free. He was using space that other coaches wanted for practice and he’d get into arguments with some of them because he wanted to use space that was scheduled for team practice to run training sessions he was collecting money for! All of the coaches followed the same rule. And it was in our contracts all along not to do private training with our own players unless it was offered to the whole team. FA has always done extra training without charging for it but Gus was unethical about it and it caused major drama on all of his teams.

You’re absolutely right. ECNL players only train with their teams. No private training.

+5 This club is headed for disaster.

He expects when you get to his level and age that fundamentals and certain technical skills have been developed. He thrives on creating set pieces and executing higher level strategies to close out games.
Sounds like he thrives on shaking down parents for cash-for-playtime. Sounds like a real loser.
My daughter played for him and started. Never had to pay. That’s because she actually could play. Why is everything on this string so dramatic?
Any coach who shakes parents down for cash to get playtime for their kids is unethical and sleazy. Every kid should be playing in every game regardless of whether they bribe the coach or not.

It sounds like he only coaches teams to have access to parents to blackmail into paying for his $$$$ private traininga.
