This is an abomination and I am pretty confident most of the top brass see it the same way.
Then they should resign their commissions. Regardless of how “right” the brass may be, they serve at the pleasure of the democratically elected civilian leadership of the country. If they really believe this is an abomination, then they need to resign.
They serve to protect the Constitution of the United States — against all enemies: foreign and domestic. Right now, the supposedly “democratically elected” civilian leadership of the country appear to be domestic enemies of the Constitution.
Whether anyone now employed by the government decides to stay or decides to resign should be guided by their assessment of their ability to protect the Constitution. There’s an amendment in there just for this type of situation — well, for the parts of this situation that involve people unable to fulfill their oaths of office properly. Yes, “properly” is carrying a lot of weight and value judgements here — as does the Constitution.
