Nixon did it. Let's see how it ends for Trump.

It turned out totally fine for Nixon. Not a day in prison.

Nothing, or prior prosecutors who looked would have found it.

Gee, I wonder - a lifelong civil servant, a person of integrity and principle (never mind your opinions of his HRC gaffe) who led the FBI being hauled into federal court on TRUMPed up charges brought by the DOJ he once served and from which his beloved daughter was fired without cause and two of his sons-in-law have resigned on principle - why would that depress a man?

My own career as a lawyer was much more modest, but I studied at Georgetown and spent time in the federal courts there and have had lifelong reverence for the institutions I'm now watching being stained and destroyed by the pig in the WH and I take a little time every single day to cry over it. It's AWFUL to watch this unfolding, if you give any kind of care for our democracy.

As to people worrying about the financial cost to Comey - I doubt very much that Patrick Fitzgerald is charging him for the pleasure of coming out of boring retirement to take on the POS in the WH and his stupid minion in the DOJ. I'm sure he's thrilled to be doing it, and I can't wait to watch him TROUNCE that idiot USA Hooligan and her stooges, if this farce ever even makes it to trial - highly unlikely given that her appointment is most likely in violation of statute which will render the indictment hollow and the statute of limitations has passed. So sad!

I'm sort of sad that the case probably won't go to trial. It would've been great to see Trump's DOJ get their a$$es kicked, and the Russia interference scandal be brought to light again.

I think there's a pretty good chance that Comey demands a speedy trial instead of trying for a pre-trial dismissal. He signaled that in his statement after the indictment, and it makes some sense since any dismissal will get litigated up to the Calvinball court.

The what?

PP is referring to the Supreme Court, which makes new law all the time regardless of precedent, like Calvin of Hobbes fame did with the rules of Calvinball, a game he made up.

It was a reference in a dissent by Justice Jackson:

“This is Calvinball jurisprudence with a twist,” Jackson wrote. “Calvinball has only one rule: There are no fixed rules. We seem to have two: that one, and this administration always wins.”

She wrote that brilliance? What case was that? I need to get back into reading the dissents!

Not only of the charges against him but of other crimes for which the statute of limitations has expired. But I don’t believe a jury of 12 in VA will find him guilty. Too many liberals part of the resistance.

He destroyed the reputation of the FBI. This is the opinion of many agents and specialists who worked under him. So glad he is no longer there.

Preemptively blaming Trumps embarrassing loss on liberals. Nice.

PP thinks the court system operates like Twitter.

I don't think there are too many Liberals who are upset that Comey has to ensure this. He is, afterall, a republican who took overt action to tilt the election to Trump in 2016.

Exactly, he reaps what he sowed. Kind of fun to watch.

Is this just a vibe check...or can you lay out your case as to why he's guilty of these charges and other unspecified charges. The prosecution, as opposed to you, think they have a terrible case. So what's your legal analysis on all this?

Imagine Trump wasting months of your life and all your savings. You’d be depressed too.

I’m no fan of Comey, but Trump is a traitor and a crook and a pedophile and has NO business holding ANY public office at all.

Trump has a many-decades-long practice of punishing his perceived enemies by engaging them in costly baseless legal battles. This is business as usual for him. He loves to inflict pain on anyone who he perceives as crossing him. A USA Today analysis from 2016 found that over roughly 30 years, Trump and his businesses had been involved in about 3,500 legal cases in state and federal courts; in approximately 1900 of those cases, he or his businesses brought the charges.

Yeah, and so I’ve several times wondered …isn’t there such a thing as repeat nuisance plaintiff losing their right to sue? I thought there is and he should have been stopped from this BS decades ago. Though I realize Trump isn’t the plaintiff here, it would have prevented him from filing fake suits against the law firms and tv networks.

There really should be a limit to how many lawsuits you can bring in your lifetime.

I think there really is a point at which the courts can say, not you again. Dismissed. It should have happened to him a long time ago.

This is such a thing, but it is rarely applied. I can recall only once and that was on Long Island. More often, judges will bar some people from filing without judicial approval first.
