Take a deep breath. Are you sure it wasn't a hand-me down? We give suits away (tech and non-tech) after kids grow out of them. Some families are happy to take them as-is.

It was most definitely not a hand me down. It was a “I will do anything to keep my kid at the top of the ladder.” It is just another example of the over the top craziness of some parents who don’t get the concept that summer swim is for fun. This little child was the only one wearing one and looked silly. And many people were commenting about it.

Some of the little kid ones aren't expensive.

We don't but it would be nice.

The irony of not recognizing that you are the one being crazy here. Of course lanes have to be separated by speed.

All practice lanes are generally separated by ability. The kids get the most out of practice when they are in a lane with other swimmers of comparable ability because they can pace properly without running each other over. In all seriousness why would you want 10 year old club swimmer Joey in the same lane as 10 year old new summer swimmer Larlo (and I’m using 10 year olds as the example because this is definitely more crazy talk from parents of young swimmers)? The coaches also generally spend less time on the club kids lane because they know those kids are getting their coaching elsewhere.

Why? Seriously. Do you want the club swimmers running over the other kids? We have the "fast lane" at practice.

But the further you get from that lane, the more coaches you get working with you lane, more in water help, and pull outs. At least at our pool. The coaching resources are put to the kids learning the strokes.

Same at our pool. My kid is a Club kid and goes to summer practice for fun but does not get a ton of attention because she doesn’t need it. Coaches need to focus on getting kids legal or getting them faster

Not the head coach. Just an age group coach.
