He went before immigration court and provided compelling documentation and testimony that was found internally and externally consistent and credible that he was *not gang affiliated* but the Trump admin literally just says he was- just says it!- and suddenly people think it’s ok for someone with legal status to be shipped to a foreign prison. You think you’re safe because YOU have never been in a gang? This is the whole point: if Trump gets away with this, you don’t ever have to done anything wrong in your whole life for him to just SAY you did and off you go to foreign prison. You don’t HAVE to have a criminal record or any charges- they’ll just say you did and that’s now good enough. It’s unreal people can’t see how dangerous that is to allow.

F. He has never been convicted of a crime in El Salvador OR in the U.S., so sending him to PRISON in El Salvador makes no sense
.
That is not true. Stop lying.
He was convicted of a restraining order for domestic violence. His wife admitted he abused her for THREE YEARS. Get your facts straight!
That is not a conviction my friend and it doesn’t negate someone’s right to due process. You can be a shit person and still deserve due process, just like every shit person is entitled to a robust defense in court. And it matters for us all that we don’t just say due process doesn’t matter.
Chris Van Hollen is prioritizing bringing one really “shit person” (who is probably a former gang member) to the USA even though he is a citizen of El Salvador, and not a U.S. citizen.
That’s the gist here.
Seeing the mom from Maryland talk about her murdered daughter at yesterday’s press briefing affected me to the core. Where was Van Hollen for her? She is his constituent. He is a horrible person

This stunt will get Vance elected. Dems look like absolute idiots focusing on the return of an illegal immigrant when a recession is around the corner.
What can one Democrat do about the recession that the Republican President, Republican Senate, and Republican House are pushing us into?
It’s called which media narrative to push. No one is talking about the economy when the headlines focus on this. Sorry but outside the DC bubble, no one cares about this issue. Trump is vulnerable on prices and the tariffs but as usual the Democratic party is floundering.
No one outside the DC bubble cares about the rule of law?

No, he’s prioritizing due process, rule of law, checks and balances, and the US Constitution.
Not by going to El Salvador to grand stand for himself. The Supreme Court is the venue now for prioritizing due process.
Is Garcia even alive? That’s what he’s checking on. So far, it looks like no.

Ironic that Rachel’s MS-13 murder/rapist was convicted the same week Van Hollen flew to El Salvador.
And yet no one is embarrassed by Van Hollen, but the entire nation is embarrassed by its President and his merry band of sycophant’s intend on destroying the fabric of the country for their own greed and ego.

Focus on the mess Trump is making of the economy. That is clear and a winnable issue.
Focus on the closure of rural health and Head Start. So many stories from parents who rely on Head Start to highlight.
Focus on all the losses to science through the NIH and university research cuts and how this jeopardizes our status as an innovator.
Focus on grocery store prices. Pick someone from the Midwest and have them report on their grocery bill weekly.
Focus on the oligarchy AOC/Sanders message. Highlight the conflict of interest inherent in sending out all social security statements over X.
Focus on the poor woman kidnapped from Tufts by plain clothed ICE officers.
There is so much to chose from. The Dems have money to do their research. I just don’t understand how they can keep picking up winnable issues?!?
To me, it would be unacceptable for Dems to stay quiet about illegal deportations. I'm often skeptical of slippery slope arguments, but Trump has made clear his desire to send us citizens to El Salvador and his belief he can violate the law.
This goes beyond politics. This is a fundamental human rights issue.
Sure. So focus on that message - that Trump has said he will send US citizens to prison in El Salvador and highlight the percentage of death row cases with innocent men.
But digging in to defend the Maryland Dad after the court docs showing claims of abuse is not a winning message in the court of public opinion.
Due process is an argument too complex.
I’m not arguing that what has been done is not horrible and an injustice but Dems need to be monitoring the front page of FoxNews to understand why Trumps approval rating is not in the 20s.
They need to think critical in about winnable messages.

Shame he didn’t fly to Iran when a US citizen from Maryland was held hostage there. That man spoke out today to ask why his case wasn’t given this attention.
Of all the things happening in the world right now, he's got time to fly to El Salvador to "free" a suspected Salvadoran gang member who was in the US illegally.
If this gesture isn't calculated posturing, I don't know what it is. If I were a legal Maryland resident, I would not be amused.
You don’t know Maryland residents very well.
Probably understand it a lot better than you. Bethesda-Chevy Chase used to be one of the best high schools in the nation. No more.
Oh so you are that whiny teacher
Nope, you're wrong, you dumdum.
A dumdum is someone who thinks Maryland residents are upset Van Hollen went to El Salvador.
Plenty of Maryland residents posting here that think it was stupid. He’s a moron with zero authority.
