I am confused by why he is still in student housing and expecting protection from the university since he graduated in December. Do colleges/universities usually all alumnae to continue to live in campus housing after graduation? I always thought you had to move out. Is his wife a current student?

This seems to be a side issue. Graduate student housing may very well require year long leases. Married students with children (or children about to be born) may be allowed certain accommodations. You never know what policies a university may have.
