I cannot imagine picking Deal over Latin. I also cannot imagine picking BASIS over Deal.
Ok, that sounds like your preference? But not everyone's. At BASIS and my child has some friends who live in the Deal zone, so clearly some people prefer it.

No you do not have to come from a feeder. You can get in without it but chances are lower since feeder kids have preference. You can’t win if you don’t play.
BTW, oyster families also try to get into DCI because Adams is so small and limited in offerings all around.
Oyster families do not go for DCI. There has not been any significant Oyster attrition at all and definitely not to DCI.
I’m PP above and yes know Oyster families who try to lottery into DCi as recent as the last lottery for this year.
PP again, it doesn’t mean they got in but yes they lottery for DCI.
I am an Oyster Adams parent and this is not a significant number of families. Maybe a few every year because the commute would be better.

Deal is OK but J-R is not good. Basis has a great high school option.

If you’re already in the Deal/JR feeder pattern, just sit tight and enjoy elementary school. You’ll know a lot more about your kid and what sort of environment they’ll thrive in when they’re in 3rd or 4th grade.
OP reviving this old thread. Yes, this is me. I assumed that because I moved into the best pyramid in DC that I was all set. I’m starting to realize that was a naive assumption and now weighing options. It makes a lot of sense that I need to wait and see, but I can already tell that the current state of public schools might not work.
What are your concerns, OP? We are considering moving up to that pyramid.
Not specific to DCPS. Things like mainstreaming special needs kids to the detriment of all, declining standards in math and especially literacy, large class sizes.
