I mean, most of the class time in all classes seem to be filled with busy work if you look at it that way.

FWIW, my STEM oriented kid's writing really improved at IB. It was already pretty good (went to CES formerly HGC ), but the required writing in IB really raised their writing skills.

IB really focuses on critical thinking skills and analysis. AP is much more rote IMO. I have one DC who went the AP route and another the IB route. The IB kid also self studied for AP exams and did very well (56 credits total going into UMD).
