About 400k people in the US are working in software on HxB visas, but with the industry layoffs and increase in CS majors over the past decade, there really is no need for this program. It's now just a means to suppress domestic salaries by importing low-cost labor.

Yes, racism and dislike of immigrants is what the GOP is about right now.

They're billionaires. They haven't needed to consider the feelings and opinions of other people since they acquired that level wealth.

At this point, I'm sure it doesn't even occur to them to do so.

That makes sense. They've been hanging around in woke circles and seem to be surprised by the tank and file of the GOP.

Their views are 100% aligned with the racism of the campaign, that’s why they signed on. Musk in particular has radicalized in public view. So he wants to import some galley slaves. You think that makes him an ally? If the political climate is threatening for them, that’s a feature not a bug.

Both parties are beholden to their corporate overlords.

It's a terrible thing. They may as well have just stayed home or voted Stein. Harris loved the program.

Some are questioning Ramaswamy's and Musk's loyalty to America, and it's no surprise that Harris would be the same. She too had parents from elsewhere. Her ties would be theoretically less strong than Ramaswamy's given that she spent years growing up in another country.

Which is precisely why she didn't inspire greater voter turnout.

The voters who turned out apparently don't want more immigrants, legal or illegal.

Yet that’s what they’re getting if President Musk has his way.

I didn't say they were the sharpest tools in the shed, but are well armed and have high expectations from a second trump term.

Capitalism is about competition. Allowing defacto monopolies to control the labor market is not capitalism.

Corporations have the right to hire whoever they want to, barring discrimination against race, religion, gender.

Sorry, that's capitalism. MAGA

Then capitalism needs to be regulated better.

hahaha is this a joke? Rs would say regulation is the antithesis of capitalism.

Right? According to MAGAs, regulation is communism

No. There are 2 things raising the rents in areas like SF:

1. Fixed property taxes and fixed rents so people stay in the area long after they would normally have moved on.

2. Rich foreign people - mostly from China - buy up properties in desirable areas of California and don’t even lease out the property, just let it sit there vacant (no hassles for them that way), to park their money away from the Chinese government.

Higher demand, lower supply means higher prices.

There are pharmaceutical and tech companies interspersed between massive apartment complexes in Cambridge. They are full of H1-B visa holders. They also have some subsidized units. Rents are average $6,000 per month with parking and other amenities. I know a lot of workers from Russia,China, Middle East. They don’t pay their rent so the greedy management companies charge ridiculous prices.

Prices are high because Cambridge restricts development. These massive apartment complexes are small in number with select developers paying the right people. But generally you are not allowed to build higher than three stories in Cambridge.

We need to focus more on these skills in our US schools to close the gap. Indians aren't inherently smarter than Americans. They just have a better focus for the .001% of their citizens that have the opportunity to get the education needed in the tech world.

If you are talking about gifted programs and advanced tracks in schools then I agree with you. We’re cutting gifted programs for equity reasons even though we should be expanding them. We should have advanced tracks at school for the “gifted” kids and then super advanced programs for those really special kids that you identified.

Students don’t need gifted programs to succeed. They will learn the basics and head to a top college where they will focus on their trade. Actual gifted kids, not just kids who passed a simple test, they will be noticed.

But Musk bought Trump. And Harris doesn't have a business that relies on H1 visa holders, unlike Musk. She also doesn't have business ties to China, unlike Musk.
